However 1.2's do indeed rock! :d :)
Ace pic :)
Old, older, oldest lol lol
the estate was always going to be used as a daily work horse john.
and its possible because im good nick lol.
had a gearbox and tool boxes in the back of the estate aswell
I hate my 1.2 engine
Yeah 1.2's are great for towing... we are talking about 1.2 on each bank of cylinders yeah? lol
why?
**** slow and no go :( the timing is out which doesn't help and it ****ing DRINKS the fuel  did that even before I ****ed the timing up (took distributor off without marking it up against the head, lesson learned)
well then put it right!!! its not hard. i get about 35mpg and they not slow imo

Putting a 1.6 in soon anyway.

lol yeh they are not slow once you get to about 6k revs lol
i still laugh to my self about that time!

1.2's are quite torquey for little engines IMO.
On my old 4 speed carb'd 12, the sweet spot was in 4th gear at about 50mph. I could leave Morris Minor's standing!

Isn't 6k rpm the redline on a 1.2? and I think my sweet spot is the same as bmw156 I think, but then again I aint drove her properly in 3 months.

6k prolly is the redline. I think peeps are taking the pi55.
Most engines are quick at bursting point! lol
I fail at sarcasm  not long since woke up though so :p

My 1.2 went well over 6k once or twice by accident. Its sweet spot was in 1st at around 15mph :)

Most engines are quick at bursting point! lolnot at all. the red line is about 7500rpm when you hit the valve bounce

Is that when you engage 2nd on the motorway?
That's a good way to demolish an engine Craig lol
Is that when you engage 2nd on the motorway?no not at all. i dont care what the hatters think. martin knows the score ;)

took mine to approx 7200 (could read it obviously) and i puffed out, engine still going strong though, regularly into the red :D
lol i know the score, and i have had mine over 6k a few times, but i dont like it.
and i think my and burgo must have a special version of 1.2 because we both think they are quick lol.
4 gears ftw

Most/all of the 4 speed boxes are the same as the 5 speed F10's, but without 5th (1-4 are the same). 1.2s top out at around 95 on the flat, a bit more downhill, with the sails out and a tailwind.
about 70 lol
in 2nd they do haha

aha with the sails liked that. Also so the only difrent with the 1-4 and 1-5 are that its got a better top end or it just takes linger to get through gears?
whats best gear box for a 1.2 thanks rob.
Love having a 4 speed let;s you be lazy with the gears

4 speed is awesome!
60mph in 2nd
85 in 3rd
86 in 4th lol
they rock!
HAHA
Mines spi so i get to 50 in 2nd and change don't like to thrash it

http://www.xen0phobiak.f2s.com/novaload/gear_ratios.jpg
Gears 1-4 on the F10's fitted to 1.2s are the same, but the final drive ratio can be a little longer (5%) on the 4 speeds.
in answer to the what box is best, depends if you do town or A road driving.
town = 4 speed
A road = 5 speed.
as when im doing about 70-75 it is ragging its nuts off lol about 3k revs
CoolTiger

1st - 30
2nd - 50
3rd- 80 so ive been told?
4th - is geard to get you off the clock
i rarely use my 5th gear 4th gear rocks for a-roads...had my old 1.2 4spd into tripple figures...(on the clock)
HAHA
Mines spi so i get to 50 in 2nd and change don't like to thrash it
Mine is an spi 4 speed and my clock reads approx 62 on the limiter in second and its screaming like a bitch.

All this chat about 1.2's. lol
You guys should get a go in 1300SR that isnt hanging. :thumb:
Burgo, the 2nd gear on the motorway comment wasnt aimed at you, but I do know someone that repeatedly tried to kill a 1200 like that & it wouldnt die.
I know a lad with a 1.2 carb he's seen 123mph on his clocks hahaha i think they may just be rather out
I saw 116mph down a private hill haha

I'm constantly trying to kill mine, it WILL NOT DIE. I swear I've been past the point of valves through the bonnet and it still lives lol
What did you mean by "You guys should get a go in 1300SR that isnt hanging" ??
He means if you think a 1200 is quick then a 1300 SR will rock your world lol
The smallblock OHC engines are bomb proof, check this vid out that Phil Sutton put on youtube a while ago, they put a 200bhp shot of nitrous into the inlet and it went pop, after the dust and the remains of the rocker cover settled they tried to fire it up again and it ran:eek:

Fair enough. I should have fun times ahead then :D
That video is quality. I've seen it countless times before but never new the story behind it.
Might take the old 1.2 out for a bit :D
Its funny reading the keyboard warriors replies on that vid tbh lol
It was at JNC and the engine was coming out for an XE swap so they thought they would have a little fun with it rather than just throw it on the scrap pile:thumb:
My old 1200 regularly used to see valve bounce till i figured out how far up i could rev it before changing gear (cos you dont really want valve bounce as it slows you down) it used to bounce so hard it misfired for about 30 seconds

I'm sure we've all had those moments where your feet are going crazy cause you've changed down to early, the anchor tug effect and engine starts to scream so you go to dip the clutch as quickly as possible again.....doesn't help if you're trying to left foot brake too lol
Cool nitrous site if anyone fancies having a go with some squirt...

I saw 119 in mine, read from a digidash with astra alloys:eek:
My 1.2 survived a week of going round the same corner from uni at about 4-5 grand with the oil light on because the pickup was on the opposite side of the sump and it surged over lol short of a 200bhp shot of nos, they're stupidly hard to kill, actually just realised, even that didn't work if it ran after lol

What did you mean by "You guys should get a go in 1300SR that isnt hanging" ??
I meant, a 1300 SR that isnt on it's way to 190.000miles, have oil pouring from every gasket or 12 previous 'boi' owners.
Watching a disappearing 1300 SR in a 1200 is hard to understand. How can 100cc make such a difference?
101 or 102cc, depending on if you're in an SPi or not :p
My mate had a 1300SR which wasn't that much faster than my 1200 tbh. Dunno what the engine condition was of his mind, although I was lead to believe it was good.
matt_vaughan
27-10-09, 07:01 PM
My mate had a 1.8 cav (which are relatively crap anyway) but up to third i was edging ahead of him, the ratio change to 4th kills any chance of beating anyone in a standard 1.2, although theoretically top end of 3rd is 80 odd mph anyways so i shouldn't really be doing that speed lol
MattBrown

Got 103 mph on the satnav the other day out of the pushrod!
Was well happy!

Way back in 96 or 97, Edd had an F reg 1300 SR, it was damn tight & standard, that thing would wipe the floor with my 1200, I'd literally get to the end of my power & need to change up & his 1300 was just coming on cam & leap away. my 1200 wasnt slow, same as the other chaps about town & getting me to Uni every week fast enough. It was quicker than Edds 1.2 SPI when his Dad made him get something slower.. lol
