Would like some advice on what gearbox i should use for my XE which has been highly modified. I will be using the car every day and the odd track day as i only live 5 miles from the track on Anglesey. I already have a f16 and a f20, i also have a Quaiffe ATB diff which i was going to just put in the f20 and away but i was woundering what others have been doing? Also i am planning on geting nitrous once the engine has been ran in. Thanxs

F28 for big power, but this means making/moving the front chassis leg gearbox mounting!

Or just fun the f20 with the diff, just dont be a tool in 1st and 2nd!

I cant see an XE really having the torque to use a 6th gear. It has been dine I know.

I would say a straight cut gear cluster in an F20 with a quaiffe. However for daily duties maybe the straight cut gears will be too noisy. In which case a regular F20 with the ATB will suffice. A TB'd engine isnt really ideal for daily running though either!

Yeah, but the carbs would up the torque nicely? 152V6s came with F20s and they only had 166lbft compared to the XE's 144lbft

No, the carbs may add peak torque further up the rev range, but would likely sap it from lower rpm. So in essence you would need to thrash 5th gear to the redline & then slip it in 6th & keep the revs up. easy in a turbo but not so on N/A.

152V6 - Alfa Romeo???? Its more to do with the torque curve than the actual peak fig tbh. More area under the curve, lower down the rpm range = stronger engine tbh.

Depends what you are coming from & how far you travel everyday.

Stripped cars are for gays afterall.

I thought that throttle bodies are good for everyday use! The spec of the engine is head has been ported and polished,1mm oversize valves, double valve sbrings, solid lifters, bronze valve guides, verniers and 295degree cams. 87mm wossner hi comp pistons, steel rods, re ground and balanced crank, acl main and big ends, lightend and balanced flywheel, quaif lsd, 4-1 magnex exhaust manifold, 2 1/2 full stainless system and a set of QED direct to head throttle bodies. I also have a wizard of noz kit coming soon. So its inportant that the gearbox will handle it

Straight cut gears sound like you are permanently in reverse.

I thought F23 was cable... the F25 was the rod operated one?

152V6 - Alfa Romeo????
2.5L V6. I spend a lot of time researching Yankee engines, which of course are all cid, so I get used to id'ing the GM V6's as 152 and 180 lol

TBs are fine for everyday use, but the noise WILL do your head in within a week or so!;)

Best thing to do is get an inclosed airbox for everyday use, sounds like a normal XE (ish) then...

Im gona stick with the f20. Was thinking about a enclosed airbox for the bodies, i have a dome filter for them at the mo. Il wait and see how it sounds first before having one fabricated.
