Well it's a ford, but I assumed this was intentional. Just looks metallic to me?

Seems strange for sure. Only thing i can think of was a fail during the painting process, like getting too cold or being left in frost now i think about it.

Off topic - X reg fiesta has more rust then my T reg tigra, even tho both have about the same miles.

i had this happen when i had my first car sprayed, when you wipe the rain off and leave it it goes back to normal. its something to do with the content of acid in the rain. A decent coat of polish/wax to protect the paint will stop this doing the same thing again. I have seen it a few times now confused the **** out of me lol

Looks like a sh*t paint look, its mottly as funk, to much paint blown in the shut/edge of the door, might not be fully dry from what you say happens when you wipe it off.. Bonnets the wrong colour too. Take it back.

never seen that before, was it baked? looks like you can see white primer and grease marks through the base colour. needs flating and doing again imo! like the colour though, all of them lol

doesnt look like a respray to me. more like patched up, have you got a full n/s pic?

let_nova
26-10-09, 05:52 PM
ffs people read. the white mottly colour goes away when its dry. its the wet that affects it. but the bonnet doesnt seem to be affected.

gazjoiner
26-10-09, 06:50 PM
ok then! "was it painted all over at the same time? like out of the same gun/ paint? in a booth and baked ect, you didnt give much info to start with tbh lol.
got any better pics then?

was the bonnet painted with the same batch as the rest of the car?

sounds like a reaction to me

did you paint it

dougie_boi
26-10-09, 07:06 PM
the wrong activator was used as the piant dont look cured thats how its been affected by the rain if your pianting in a garage or what ever then you need to use fast air dry activator as normall activator wont cure the piant unless properly baked in a proper oven

26-10-09, 07:11 PM
do you know if it was water basecoat or solvent

dougie_boi
26-10-09, 07:15 PM
by the looks of it its solvent mate

16v Nova Kev
26-10-09, 07:18 PM
if its solvent then try and heat up 1 pannel dont cook it tho and see if that sorts it.

Jon_nova1
26-10-09, 07:21 PM
it won't be water based, i'd hope its not water based lol

heatgun?

read the first post lol. when its dry its fine. absoloute sweet paint job. soon as its wet and the water has sat on it for a while it goes like this.

Jon_nova1
26-10-09, 07:25 PM
which would indicate its not cured.....

as dougie said

read the first post lol. when its dry its fine. absoloute sweet paint job. soon as its wet and the water has sat on it for a while it goes like this. yeah the rain is causing it go like that because its not fully cured and the acid in the rain is attacking/reacting with it if its fully cured then the piant will not be affected by it. how long ago was it painted mate and what activator was used?

let_nova
26-10-09, 07:33 PM
couple of months ago. not sure on activator. i never painted it. will find out.

I love this post, show us your skills. I wanna see the last car/panel you painted.

I wonder if it was avon who painted it?

Anyways, Without actually poking about at the paint im going to say the clear wasnt mixed properly, Or again the mixing ratio was not correct.

Sometimes this happens if your rushing about or inexperienced, there isnt a lot you can do tbh... If you flat and polish it you run the risk of opening up the clear and if not fully cured, it will come away from the substrate.

Only thing you can do tbh is try a flat and polish on one of the effected areas give it a buff and then get it wet.

on that will this happen if you use clean water from say a hose pipe...
