well thought id start a project thread since im starting to do some work on the shed.

This is what it was like when i first picked it up. with the -60mm springs i shoved in there

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00244-1.jpg

Then she was treated to her first set of shoes

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00328.jpg

Then a nice new gte front bumper

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00235-1.jpg

4branch and full stainless went on shortly after

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00123.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00126.jpg

Then after a small incident with some maskingtape and my bonnet lacqure dissapearing i had to fix it. Along with 2 new front wings

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00470.jpg

Some quadlight i picked up for £30 with the novadose grill

44k on the clock, im the 2nd owner, fvsh til 2006, underneath is solid not a spot of rust, arches need doing and very small patches on the boot floor.

Benn
26-10-09, 08:30 PM
Jacking it up on the sill like that is really really bad for it..

Is it staying matt black? Gonna say i like the front with the old school grille and normal headlights with gte bumper..

Bubba
26-10-09, 10:23 PM
all going matt black. hopefully it should be done this weekend

Benn
26-10-09, 10:24 PM
Please dont.

26-10-09, 10:28 PM
all going matt black. hopefully it should be done this weekend
Its an awesome retro colour, more retro and stealth than bum boy matt black!!!!!

Tim-SR
26-10-09, 10:28 PM
dont go matt black! gloss would look good but not matt imo!

good work on it though bud, i ended up doing the same on my rear arches they just fell off when i went to rub them back to repaint them lol

Bubba
26-10-09, 10:54 PM
already ordered the paint. i might laqure it in the future if im not too keen on it, but hey £40 for a cockup aint exactly a bank breaker

brainsnova
26-10-09, 11:03 PM
has the front bumper been smoothed or is it a copy of a gte.

Bubba
26-10-09, 11:07 PM
errrmm, i got it off Matt (fat hobbit) i cant remember if i smoothed out a bit of it haha i think i might have done

Bubba
29-10-09, 06:45 PM
well, today could not have gone worse if i had tried...after grinding the rear arch...i was left with this

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00502-1.jpg

so, out came the steel and the welder and with me being a total bodge artist i ended up with this

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00504-1.jpg

then followed by this

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00509.jpg

ive decided when i put the XE in im going to put new arches on so these are just temp fixes for now

oh and i sprayed the grill because my paint finally arrived :D woohoo

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00507-1.jpg

no comments? good or bad??:(

SRimon
01-11-09, 09:34 PM
I hate matt rattle can jobs, so its not for me.

Wheels probably work better than the 17s tho.

stevie-p
02-11-09, 05:52 PM
I liked it as it was before venoms and in standard colour

Bubba
02-11-09, 05:57 PM
never had venoms :/ not on it anyway

Tim-SR
02-11-09, 06:10 PM
i have to agree with SRimon the wheels look better but the colour is not for me.

stevie-p
02-11-09, 06:12 PM
sorry my bad...this
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Dark_Yoda/DSC00235-1.jpg
i liked it better like that

Bubba
02-11-09, 06:12 PM
it might go gloss black when my new engine goes in

Bubba
02-11-09, 06:49 PM
the 17s did look good but since its my daily and ANY bumps in the road caused insane amounts of scrubbing i needed smaller :(

Hobbit
03-11-09, 05:34 AM
has the front bumper been smoothed or is it a copy of a gte.

Thats how I got it, it has lots of layers of paint so hard to tell if its been Filled. They felt bloody solid though.

I miss the sound of that exhaust set up :(

I like the matt black but I think I prefered the original colour

edit, I saw this car in the flesh, and the bodywork was a bit tatty so the rattle can spray job is a good cheap fix :thumb:

Bubba
03-11-09, 11:07 AM
that exhaust and manifold got me a £30 fine ;)

and the arches got really bad as did the bottoms of the doors.

the main reason it went black was the bonnet lacqure came off after a memorial cruise for my mate and i had a maskingtape thing all over the front end see pic ;)

http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs066.snc3/13337_296486150261_640645261_9385261_3988274_n.jpg
and then the wings that i bought were matt anyway so i though id fix the rust and just put it all black for now

brake-dust
03-11-09, 11:49 AM
car looked great in green and them big wheels, propper old skol

all the rear trim and carpet is out. tomorrow the seats will be taken out so i can get the carpet out, mmmmm brownness, and might get the shelf and part of the dash out too.

this is why i wanted it back. all in all shes pretty rot free, minus the rear arches, they need replacing. but that is it tbh.

Need to paint the bottom of the bumper from red to matt black imo - Dont worry I am a matt paint job fan :thumb: lol

Though as said already your wheels would look a lot better if you painted them white - Also you ever thought about doing the bottom half of the car satan black and the top half matt black with a red pinstripe along the middle to part to the two colours up - Would be something different from the normal matt black paint jobs out there

then the rust set in on the rear arches...so they were welded and painted black, then the whole car went black. lol its a tailgate :p you didnt see the brown dash that was cut up lol.

Rear arch looks like it should work! Would you not be better off lining it up behind the bumper and trimming it at the sill, or does it smooth out the lower it gets?

Bubba
01-01-12, 06:14 PM
its all lined up along the door edge, its just that bit behind the bumper that is a bit out. if i cut where the bumper would go its a near bang on fit.

my spare old wings really are coming in use

Nope. Not sure how easy it would be to convert a petrol shell to hold a derv engine though - I know there's a different engine mount, slam panel is different too due to the radiator I believe. Not sure about the lower cross member area.

i think i would need to find a rotten derv donor and cut the chassis leg and copy/use the front end.

I dont think it would be any harder than an xe conversion tbh,you could use a gsi rad on the derv

MK999
26-01-12, 08:48 PM
Its not due to radiator exactly, it's for clearance to remove the rad with the turbo on. Cross member is the same afaik, at worst it needs a hole banging through it if you did use the larger rad, which it really doesn't need unless you're hammering it on track, I never ran a fan on mine as it runs so cool off load.

well, mostly been doing head work, mirror polished all my valves, lapped them all back in. just needs skimming and decokeing (£42+vat), then the nice crack mod doing (since ive got about 40 of them)

also bough some nice omega 86.5mm pistons (well 3 of them) so need to get the block bored and faced. (£130+vat) the crank and fly wheel needs lightening and balancing and a regrind on the crank (£200+vat)

looks like the build isnt really a budget build anymore lol lol

those prices were from the company around the corner from me, will have to find some other prices.

the welds are about as good as a sieve for being air tight and i warped the flange so it was heated up and bolted flat to the head to cool it. then ill reweld it tomorrow when i check it.

also will be picking up an XE block bored to 86.5, freshly ground crank next week so dont have to save up to get mine bored out etc...happy days!!

work has been slow, people keep giving me wheels -__- but ive finished the passenger sill and arch, just needs fillering now. other arch im hoping to do this weekend.

I have enough tube to make the cage and a pipe bender to do it, should be fun. ive cut more out of the tailgate to fit tubing all around the back. then as i was bringing it in from outside at work i dragged the tailgate along a bollard so theres now a huge dent in the back lol
