I am going to lower my amazing nova to 60mm. I have found some gmax springs on ebay. Are they any good?I don't want to spend amazing amounts so is the price right?

They'll be fine...

What about these, half the price :)

What shocks have you got fitted now?

You might struggle with standard shocks on 60mm springs

no idea about shocks.what goes on there? would I need to uprate?not a clue!

yea standard ones would most likely be on the bumpstops

Didn't you have spax shocks?

comptoncj
24-10-09, 11:48 AM
you would get away with 40mm springs without uprating the shocks but not sure about 60mm, im running 100mm springs in my corsa c on standard shocks and its awful, it looks good but next thing on my list for it is a set of shortened shocks because its stupidly bouncy, not sure if it would be similar type of thing on a nova

carrie_girl_wonder
24-10-09, 11:49 AM
Yeah it's already been lowered to 40 and it's pretty bouncy!but fun though:d

Bouncy but fun???

If you dont drive it hard, fair enough, but the -60mm GMAX I had on my old 1.2 were horrid. Never again.

As the old adage goes, "you get what you pay for". Ride quality on ~20 year old dampers with springs 60mm lower than they're supposed to be will be naff at best, at worst the rear springs will fall out.

i get that now I guess, just I haven't a clue about all this stuff so just want some basic general advise that I will understand haha :d

My advice would be to buy some of the mega-cheap coilover sets from ebay. My mate has some on a Golf GTI, seems fine, rather stiff or firm but generally it rides OK. At worst they might be fooked in 2 or 3 years perhaps, but at that price its worth the gamble. Plus you can adjust the ride height & set it to how you want it.

these maybe?

youll be best of with matched shocks to go with the springs, its kinda dangerous to the handling otherwise, but if your set on just the springs or on a tight budget, youll need to get some spring compressors too, to change the fronts over. u can get a 2 piece compressor set on ebay for around a tenner.

what colours your nova by the way, i saw 2 in thame last month, one blue, one red, both mk.1's i think, one of em mighta been you.

....... not much more - double you mean? :d Stu, you on commission? lol

I have the GAZ coilovers & agree they are pretty ace, but if you are on a budget (& we were talking GMAX 60mm springs a second ago) then I guess the GAZ's will be too expensive.

I agree with craig, I had G Max shocks and springs on the GTE. They were shocking (excuse the pun)! Luckly I had some Apex springs and shocks, so I've bunged them on and its much better.

I've still got the springs and shocks for the front it you want them? £40 pm me if your interested.

Are those JOM ones any good? got a saloon on the way and letting my Bilsteins adn 40mm springs go with the hatch as 40mm won't be enough

I didn't find them harsh at all, if anything, too soft and sloppy. Not much of an improvement to standard tbh.

I have koni shocks on apex 45mm springs for sale. The front are adjustable. Pm me if you're interested. Take 30 mins to fit and easier than having to split your existing springs off etc.

I don't think you actually need any of those kits, its not like your going to be changing the setup for racing etc, and you know you want to go -60MM

I'd think more along the lines of

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jamex-Suspension-Lowering-Kit-Vauxhall-Nova-60mm_W0QQitemZ330319174466QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Ca rsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4ce88e9b42

which ironically enough is the same kit my sister had on her seicento thingy, and she liked it.

If you just put -60MM springs on, i think the rear springs will fall out? when it comes to the MOT, which is a fail
