Is loosing power, has engine mgt light on and not revving over 2.5k. Hills are giving it problems.

Before I have it stuck on Diag, what would possibly cause this? Split pipe, Air flow meter? Car has 46k on it.

Common fault is usually fuel injector rail on these

EGR Valve ?

I've heard they can cause problems on the new Vauxhall diesel engines

The EGR valve is a problem on anything they're fitted to! :(

Just get it plugged in, rather than clutching at straws. The cars ecu has realised a fault before you so let the computers find the fault.

could be a split vaccum pipe/ boost sensor or a number of things. Get it tested at vauxhall and ask for the fault code and discription

I cant recall an egr valve causing them to go into limp mode but doesnt mean its not possible

It's not my car but a boy at works - he took it to his mechanic who then took it for diagnostic - he said 2k to repair. The boy in the work never quite caught what was wrong as he was picking himself up from the floor!

They mentioned the manifold and a rod - only thing then is the actuator? So they might be replacing the manifold and turbo. He's going to talk to the mechanic tonight and find out exactly what he thinks is wrong. You can get an engine for under a grand!!

The mechanic is on about Swirl Flaps, Manifold and a rod....wtf is he on about?

Variable geometry turbo. Basically the vanes in the turbine housing manifold are clogged with soot and the actuator rod won't move...if I'm right. :)

If thats the case you can strip it and clean the pins that control the vanes, or buy a reconditioned/cleaned turbo from micktheturbo on ebay for £2-300.

im sure on them theres a type of actuator thingy on the inlet manifold that control some sort of flats and they go faulty and need to change the full inlet manifold and its not cheap

They dont give trouble on Nova GTE's or GSi's...lol

My parents just had similar symptoms on their Renault DCi & it was a throttle position sensor.

I think that's the prob, he said the rid had fallen out, he's sorted it for now but said the whole unit, manifold actuator turbo and cat need replaced! Crazy, you'd think it would come in parts! Some quotes are 450 other 2k... It's a 16 v. Seen one on eBay for 250 so I'll let him know about that. Cheers guys.

So it's all caused by soot on the vanes making the rod being put under extra pressure and braking?

Their EGRs still clog, and the vanes still get stuck ;)

will probably need a new inlet fanimold and id probly advise the swirl actuator motor as well.

Why they have told you it needs a new cat i dont know, the inlet is quite acommon fault on them. Drive it a bit harder once its fixed!

egr's are only really problemamtic on the 8v cdti. My guess is inlet manifold. As said tho, get it plugged in.

Tech2 it first without a doubt, could simply be an easier fix & that mechanic could just be tatting you up big styleee.
