hi, bought myself my next engine for my nova..

1600 8v gsi engine, i want to put my twin 40's from my sr onto it.

what size of chokes/jets do i need in the gsi to get it to run fairly decent?

also does anyone know where i can check to see what size of chokes is in my carbs?

i have took the trumpet off and looked in the barrol/choke and it has 30 stamped into it.

does this mean they are 30mm chokes?

if someone could tell me where to identify what chokes i have got already it would be great?

cheers

Greg

if you screw the gold caps of the top of the carbs you can take the chokes out an it should say what the chokes are

if they have 30 on them then the chokes are 30mm, im running 27mm in my 1300 i would have thought 30mm would be ok but be getting on the large side, as for jets i think theres some info in the articles about it

is that not the jets mills?

tommy-nova, i certainly did sell you a set for a 1600. i didnt strip them down and write all the jet size's etc down though.they ran fine at the time so there was no need to.

now i have a set of 40's on a sr engine but want to put a gsi engine in my car again.

comptoncj- thanks, where can i find out for sure they are 30mm chokes?

i have looked in from trumpet side and inside there is a 30 stamped on. i was just presuming that was the choke size?

how can i tell for sure though?

nah if you see 30 down behind the trumpet its 30mm chokes, and the main jets will be something like 110s but you will need bigger if your running a 1600 you will also need to run the sr dizzy :)

oki doki chap :) you gonna run a nice cam or anything or just standard internals with the 40s?

i will need to get myself a cam.

the sr engine i have in my nova atm has alot done to it, arp bolts, pistons, l+b, kent cam/vernier pulley bla bla.

i want to keep that engine complete though incase the 1600 conversion doesnt go to plan.lol

so i will be looking for a kent ast2 (or similar) and a 1600 inlet manifold for 40's..

hehe yeah sounds like a plan, my 1300 was running 40s and an ast2 n lightened flywheel, was quite quick but the engine had only done a thousand miles since rebuild ( lets just say i was miss informed about metric and imperial oil filters grr) so i reckon it had more to give, loved it though would kill vtrs and things like that ive got a 1600 and i was toying with the idea of building that up to the same spec but i dont really wanna spend the money on another inlet manifold, might try it with the 1300 one

nice! dont know how mine would get on against a vts or such like..i can beat 1400 mg's, quicksilvers etc..

i am thinking about just putting my 1300 inlet on to save time and money atm.

i know i may lose some power, but cant see it being a mega amount...

Im sure John McKean would help you out if you took a 1300 manifold and a 1600 head in to him Greg.

my uncle still uses his irmscher inlet manifold on his 1600 race car running 50mm throttle bodies, i think the head was slightly adapted to make the manifold fit better, but it must work because that engine developed 190bhp :)
