View Full Version : DERV Novas
Are they any good? Worth paying the extra over other clean mk2's?
I'm considering getting one but no sure on the price
They are economical

most mk2 diesels are rotten, mk1 stand up a lot better,
if the shell is clean and low milage, good runner, ect: id say around £1k to £1.5k
just get a cheap petrol nova and chuck a 1.7 td in it :)
ive been thinking about putting one in my daily :d still unsure thou

yep there a right giggle lol
this one seams rather clean sub 80k miles
I had one as my first car and it was awesome! Kinda miss it now tbh! It was actually a quick little car, and used to rocket when the wee turbo wound up lol Was decent on fuel aswell, I'd happily have another one anyday!

SRi performance for 1.0 insurance, and 50+ mpg. Win.

Exactly why i want one.
Love it Matt

How? The chassis leg mount is totally different, coolant pipes/rad etc completely different, loom completely different.....
More hassle than its worth tbh.
Altho a 20psi 1.7td goes ok in a mk3 astra, it would shift quite well in a nova and probably keep with a gte/gsi

I had an old 5dr fella for the track - 1.5 TD
Went like s*it off a shovel, used to wheelspin in 3rd due to the power lol
No idea if the boost had been turned up or anything - 20 litre of Red and she was away like no-one's buisness :thumb:
Mind you, the shell was past it

A 1.5td should be not far off GTE/GSi performance, the torque figures are pretty much the same. A 1.7 should flounce a GTE/GSi.

Agree, I'd say a 1.5TD is only marginally slower than a GTE. I actually out-dragged an XR2i up a long dual carriageway incline in mine.
They do feel like a big-block to drive though. All that weight you see.

Yeah I have heard they pull very well, was concerned about cornering ability

Theres no lack of cornering ability, but on turn-in, you will be aware of some extra force from between the fr wheels pushing you on a little. Like an XE Nova if you have ever driven one.
[edit] If I sell my Golf GTI, I was thinking of finding a Corsa B TD & freshen up the engine, maybe put it into a Nova TD in the future. The white one in the pics on page 1 inspired me back when it was being built in the thread on here.
No never driven a Big block Nova,
Had a "moment" yesterday where i was on 2 wheels thinking here we go again, so might just pay my dues in my 1.2 for a bit
This TD is £800 boggo would my bilsteins fit?

All parts will go straight on (engine aside). Get some SR/GTE fr seats in it for gawds sake.

My current car has GTE interior I like
The way i'm looking at it is swap my suspension and interior onto my current nova and flog for about £400 and i'd just have to put up 400 for the derv
edit, oh and my 256mm ATE calipers and new mintex disks and pads
Cheers Spud! Twas a beast!

I blame this (the heavy b*stard block) along with the standard cheese brakes and the icey conditions for why my derv ended up in a hedge once, resulting in a new lower front panel and eventually new engine lol Was a great car once I stuck some Spax coilys and Astra brakes on it though. Long live derv power!

Just keep an eye out on the bolts that go through into the engine bay for the top-mount
The diesel engine is a lot heavier than a petrol and these have been known to sheer off
Happened on my old TD Nova...

Aswell as the engine mount bolts, if running a stiff suspension setup.
my nova has 18psi of boost, it has a lot more pull than a corsa sri (it accelerates up hills like it does going down them :D) mine must be around 80bhp but has like 130ft pounds of torque !!
i would not say there 1.68v fast but there not a mile away!
