use the clutch for th 20 xe as the f20 input shaft is smaller than the f28

You are aware its not going to last long arent you? (Clutch and box)

^ Many discussions over this Andy, some people say it only lasted a few months, some people have had thiers on for time and its still good. Just make sure that your F20 is fit and theres nothing wrong with it. The only true way to see how long it lasts is to fit it and see.

Also depends on your driving style. Always hitting the redline in first gear, doing wheelspins, burnouts and general stupidness is gonna break it. Drive it sensibly, which is what you should be doing anyway on the road, and it will last much longer.

I agree but if you want to use it properly ie Drag runs or trackdays it isnt going to last long.

Bear in mind an F20 can handle 200lbft of torque, hence "20". A std LET (at factory power) will output 207lbft of torque...

True mate, trackdays, running up the strip etc does need a F28. Road use, using the car legally lol, F20 should be cool.

That doesnt break gearboxes/shafts. What breaks them is when youve got grip, you usually find they break in 3rd/4th gear, when youve got grip as that puts most strain on the transmission.

And that F20=200 torque is in NM iirc :thumb:

Had this conversation with Stu a while back, and I'm reckoning its lbft. The box is GM, and GM = American = imperial. A XE puts out 144lbft of torque, which is 195Nm, and I can't see GM running them that close to their limit on a production car?

[edit] Plus they seem to be Ok until people start putting 180V6s or LETs on them, both of which are round the 200lbft point

aye but using an old shagged gearbox is asking for a raping. rebuilt f20 or rebuilt f28, its upto you.

I used a F20 on mine for over a year, no problems at all.

245 Bhp
263 lb ft torque

It was ok at santa pod as well, plus it was a daily drive.

If you drive it hard on a regular basis, it will go BANG..

Ideally i would of put a F28 in i still had it. Just to be on the safe side. :thumb:

f18 all the way

f20 would be ok if it was new but then i still dont think it would hold up smashed 4 part last year and a m8 of mines got 4-5 in his workshop in the same state

Yes mate I aware of this but the cash flow is running low so it will have to wait.

Tok the head off tonight and found that smothing has been stick between a exhaust valve and the vave seat so that off to be reseated. costing around £200. but the good side is it head will come back like a new one.

Forgot to mention this but the car is not mine it belongs to a lad on this site I'm just doing the work for him. Thought I would register on here as alot of you have the information that I need to sort out alot of the proplems that I will have.

Thanks for the nelp so far will keep you all posted
