Nova 1.2L carb - PROBLEMS STARTING CAR

AA found that not enough oil was getting to the engine, took both pipes off and pumped the pipes to see if fuel was coming out ...replaced one of the pipes as it had gone porous.
Problem solved ....or so I thought.

Its been running ok for the last week, but it idles low esp when cold, and then seems "LUMPY" (best way to descibe it!
rev it high and it gets better, but still lumpy on the lower revs.

Also it cut out this morning at a standstill, (just started car and got to end of road). Battery then got flat trying to turn it ...had to push start it to get going.

Whats up with it?

The weather mite be no1! Mine struggles without choke EVERY MORNING!

As for fuel?? Mine is a little like that too! Doesnt just cut out, unless its cold and u give it no choke!

It could be your idle mixture screw settings on the carb or something. If it runs ok when reving high i would say that it is getting the fuel through the main jet. Try setting your carb and tickover speed.

get a mechanic to look over the timing and tuning of it

just get it setup properley i bet it hasnt been done since it rolled out the GM factory

yeah mate sounds like a timing jobbie i had this on mine and it runs like a dream now... my mate did it for me so it was only a tenner! think garages cost around ?30 but it will be so much better. J

carb issue definately - or timing. mine uzsed to do this at start up - took about 10 mins to level out. Your mix wuill be too lean so engine will idle erattically.

Check ht leads, spark plugs, dizzy cap etc aswell.

If theyre ok it could be the fuel pump. If a carbbed version (not spi) the fuel pumps on the engine block top by the crank case - mine went recently and the car died whilst I was doing 80! Had to coast to the hard shoulder!
