A couple of years ago (2nd / 3rd year uni) We used to all use it to pretty much inform each other of parties, nights out e.t.c .... Everything was on facebook.

I and everyone else are starting to use it less and less. I think the only good thing about it is that it gives you somewhere to dump photo's from an event / party / night out where everyone can tag and view them .

It's days are numbered IMO

What's wrong with email for keeping in contact with far-away family and friends? The only point of FB is everything is public so you can prove you have friends and a social life by being tagged in 20,000 poorly lit phone-camera pictures of nights out at your local Lloyds.

For me, it's just another excuse to have a nosey. It's interesting to see how some people from school turned out. The prettiest girl in my year is now quite a *****r, some of the complete nerds are now buff and hottt and quite a few of the girls have 3+kids at 22/23!

I also use it to contact my mates back in Manchester and ex-colleagues. It's actually quite useful, but as said, it is also a dumping ground for all the ASWs to put the photos from their night out, every fecking weekend! Most don't even bother to go through their photos before uploading them, it'd seem! lol

For most people its a popularity contest, 'oh look ive 579 friends' bearing in mind 500 of them are people you don't ever speak to because they're complete knobs/ people you went to school with 10 years ago and haven't spoke with since.

My friends list is always decreasing because everytime I go on there its "xxxx person is really hungover today, but what a wicked night out!" As said its just a place for people to bitch and have a moan. And all those apps like farmville and mafia wars are a complete waste of time.

I don't mind facebook, the trouble is it's sometimes used as a way to kinda get at people, if you see what I mean. For example, if someone breaks up with someone it's a race to see who can change their status to single first. Or if you have a row with someone it seems some people update their status to say something shi.tty about them. That's the only thing I don't like about it.

I use it because it was a natural progression from Myspace and now my mates are entering the big bad world from uni etc and working full time jobs we dont get to see each other half as much as we used to so we use it to keep in touch. As I steal Martin's internet it's far cheaper for me then texting and calling.

Im also with Lynz. I use it to see how fat the 'popular' people at school got and who is up the duff or in prison AGAIN!

But I did recently weed about about 50 people from my friends list so now its only family and people I talk to

IMO many people take FB too seriously. Its certainly not a site I can spend long looking at, I may login 2 or 3 times a week, & will probably be logged off within 5 mins. I'll have caught up on anything I care about, ignored any nonsense I dont wish to know about & probably hidden a few more numpties that post drivel on their status 12 times a day.
I was really chuffed to find a few Uni mates so easily when I joined, I thought I'd never get hold of them again. However the site is over populated with ASW's & what not + it's so successful the servers or software it runs from will forever be stretched & suffer from overload. Currently I always get pee'd off with it running slowly or the messaging/PM's not being accessible.

Another use for Facebook is finding family. My Da' is a complete :tosser: and I haven't spoken to him or seen him in a number of years. When split up with his Fiance (with whom he has a daughter, my half-sister) he wouldn't give me any details of where they'd moved to. His ex had no contact number or address for me either, as I'd also recently moved. A quick search on facebook and up they both came! Then a month or so later, my Uncle (the ****'s brother) and three cousins added me. I can message them, comment on their photos and get to know them again a wee bit before I meet up with them (which could have otherwise been quite uncomfortable). The best bit is that he has no control over the situation. If I'd have gone through another method, it may well have been expensive and/or taken a long time. This was free and easy :thumb:

It was the progression from Myspace.

I joined Myspace in the beginning and found it a useful, fun way of keeping in contact with people. Then I got fed up with the bullshart of a popularity contest it became and that people who I used to speak to regularly stopped texting & phoning and just started sending myspace messages. I then deleted myself off myspace and within a few weeks people started actually talking again! Then facebook came along.

I refused to join up for the same reasons as above. I find someone has time to send a quick facebook message but not enough time to reply to a txt within 2wks!! Grrr.

However, when one of my best mates got married last year I was getting agro because I wasn't part of the stag group page and until I did no one would tell me what was happening. I joined up and there was **** all on there.

I'm still on facebook. I get an email when someone has sent me a message/posted on my wall and I either log in to reply or PICK UP THE PHONE!!!! People rarely message me now tho and txt instead - hurray!!

If you couldn't tell - I'm not a fan of facebook.

My friend Amy is a classic facebook "hero". She txt me yesterday morning to ask if I was about during half term when one of her friends is down. I replied about 30mins later with some further questions, all simple polite stuff. No reply as yet. However, she found time to sit on facebook for god knows how many hours putting up pictures of the weekend. I'm confident I won't get a reply off her for several days now.

I have never had one and i never will have one.The way i see it is this-I couldnt give a flying fukk if a lad i sat next to in primary school has just had a wikkid nite innit! I moved to Scarborough from Hull over 3 years ago now,and still regurlarly text/phone my mates from Hull.Most of them have facebook.I have msnerd and a phone so why would i need owt else.As i say i still keep in touch with the friends who are worth bothering with.You quickly realise who is a friend and who isnt when you leave school etc as the friends stay in touch no matter what and "associates" well they just go.
I can honestly say out of 12 years of school life i have contact with only one person who i have known since i was 5.

I struggle t stay logged in for more than 5 minutes unless I am directed to someones photo's. It has been good for post-car show pics, tagging & finding new friends. After PV & Billing this year, lots of PNG pics & new contacts got added.
