right i have a sony headunit, with which ive also wired in this

it started to blow the "inline" fuse on the back of the headunit.......then some guy i know tuned it so it gave a nice sound.
ive also recently installed 4 x kenwood 5 1/2" speakers all round
and since ive done this, when i turn up the volume(around 3/4's of its limit) on the stereo, it goes completely OFF then comes back on again automaticaly???
can anyone guide me around this problem so that i can turn it up that bit more???

Hi,
The Sony deck is going into protection, normally caused by current draw issues, try running a dedicated power feed direct from the battery with a 10amp fuse less than 18inches from the battery, also just double check all your connections as a blown fuse is normally a short somewhere.

Hi,

it all seems to have happened since i upgraded the 4"surround speaker's too 5 1/2???
i also pulled the main plug out of the back of the headunit which reset everything, but there is nothing on the stereo which controls "protection"if you like?

Protection is a general car audio term, Kenwoods use Protection in their literature,Alpines with a 60w Power Output needed a direct battery feed to turn on due to current draw, might be worth double checking that neither of the two speaker wires are going to ground, this may cause the sony to power down.....

How have you wired the speakers up as a sony unit usually goes into protection like that if the ohms are wrong

had this problem with a sony unit, turned out to be my amplifier, disconnect the RCA's from the amp then try it, maybe the amp is shorting out
What cable are you using for your + and - to your amp? Too small for currant draw and you will get this. What is the "gain" set on, on the amp as dont forget this is not a secondary volume knob. As even though it might sound "louder" full whack. Believe me it wont be helping

sounds like the amp to me overheating cutting out when turned up. Have you wired head unit so can be played with ignition turned off? have twin feeds going to head unit then if still doing it. more than likely the amp. looks like a cheap one from the pic's maplin specail/mystar etc....
I run 4 gage amp power and earth wires, sony head unit, x4 6in speakers, x4 tweeters and four amps and have no issues.
Old amp used to cut out when turn up the tunes loud but this was cause under power and just cut out then came back in few mins later. alos blew a few fuses from time to time.

Just re read this, the amp is going into protection, basically your running it to hard, headunits and amps are realistically at full power on about 3/4 volume, any more and it starts to distort causing the cut out.

amp needs up grading to a more powerfull model it would appear. each amp suld be working around 3//4 at max power at max volume.
Ie 300watt RMW sub would need 350watt RMS amp, 4x50watt head unit needs speakers that are max of 45watt etc......this will prevent the cut outs

are you sure its the aerial your look at and not the feed to the amplified antenna??my e46 aerial has an amplifier on it so it had to be connected to a switchable ve for it to work properly - this was direct off the bmw headunit.might be the same thing but just a thought
This thread is nearly a year old, and from what i can gather i think he's sorted it :thumb:
