View Full Version : Insurance Rant

Ever since I've been getting my own insurance, not once has my renewel price ever been lower than the previous year. I've learnt to accept this and I ususally estimate that the renewel quotes will be about 10-25% more expensive. Not this year though...My renewel quote was over 65% more expensive!

The car in question is an unmodified Vauxhall Signum. None of my details have changed over the last 12 months. I've not received any points or made any claims. I'm completley stumped as to how they can go from £297.00 the previous year to £494.00 this year.

I phoned the insurer who simply told me that was the best price they could find and that it was a lot cheaper than other quotes he'd been handing out to people that day. He also mentioned that there have been an increased number of claims involving people with no insurance, so people like me have to suffer the consequences to cover those unwilling to drive without the proper insurance.

Needless to say I made a quick visit to Go-Compare and Confused where I was able to get quotes for around £300.00. I phoned my insurer back who said fair enough, we won't automatically renew your policy.

It really p****s me off that after another year of careful driving I'm being punished moreso than those who don't drive without any form of insurance.

All I can say is these people are C***TS!

Rant over!

Jim.

Renewal prices are going up, that is a fact. There has been a +60% rise in fraudulent claims so the knock on effect is a rise in premiums.. having said that a 65% rise is a hell of a lot! You are lucky that (I assume) you drive a standard UK car as there is a lot of competition in the insurance industry for these so you benefit from a hige amount of companies all willing to undercut each other.

Ps, are you calling me a c***?! Joke!

Yes Ollie, it's a standard UK car.

Deep down I understand that companies have to make money and ultimately the end user is the one who suffers.

lol, no Ollie, I'm not calling you or any other Insurance broker a c**t. It's the scum that drive round with no insurance or those making fraudulent claims that are the c**ts.

i often find that the renewal price is more....so i move company. If you take advantage of their offers you can usually get your insurance down.

65% rise does seem rather high so id get a quote elsewhere then go back to your insurer and tell them what you have been quoted.

as for the c**ts that drive around with no insurance, i totally agree. They need to get tougher. Not just hand a them a driving ban. No insurance will probably mean no tax, no mot and no licence anyway.

Good rant. No offence to any brokers etc, but insurance is becomeing a joke. It just goes up & up & up for no reason other than greed on the part of the underwriters.

the reason also is partly to do with the higher cost of parts andlabour, and th overall cost of repairs. my uncle works for a large chain bodyshop, they write off alot of cars that 2-3 years ago would be repaired. 2 years ago he fixed a 3 year old corsa that had 3k of damage. last week he wrote off a 3 year old corsa with 2700 of damage.

..same for me chap, when i was 17 with one year no claims my xl125r was £115 to insure fully comp!! (thumbs up i thought as when i was 16 it was nearly £500 for a moped)
..this year i was 18 with 2 years no claims and a full car and bike license behind me and it was £189

How does this work people??

mine went up 10% for no good reason... unfortunately it was still the cheapest :(

Surely as with insurance companies that cover mortgages, you can chase down the uninsured/fraudulently claiming mofos and get the money back from them. Even if it means bankrupting the ****s.

A few years ago I had a Cavalier SRi with More Than. The renewal came in at about £850 up from £550. I phoned them and they wouldn't budge.

I shopped round for quotes and put the same details into their website...... quoted £600 quid, which was an increase but still easily the best price. I cancelled the renewal over the phone and then bought it online.

Go figure

both my cars are modified so i'm a bit stuck as to who will cover me, however that doesn't stop me picking up the phone twice a year and ring everyone to get the price as low as i can (and give Ollie a hard time lol). I've always paid less each year for insurance, unless the policy has changed and even then i'll do my best to get to a price i'm satisfied with.

I've done this before too; this confirms there is a tax for being loyal or lazy however you look at it.

The automated renewals are inflated above their true cost regardless of claims to the contrary and justifications for IME; it must be worth it by virtue of the amount of people just going for it and renewing automatically or it wouldn't happen. Until such time when it becomes not worth it due to people leaving (which may be never) the situation will not change.

I've never had this problem, i'm with swiftcover, and had cheaper car insurance year on year, i just did a quote for when i get the nova legal, and its cheaper than the mazda! i should have hoped anyway

there is a tax for being loyal, i found getting a quote rather than taking up the renewal quote saved me £60 lol

and checking out the modified (everything including the engine) go compare came back as £390 with flux-direct

perhaps the yoof will find that once you hit 25 your insurance WILL go up every year (or atleast stay the same).

Its cak :(

But then we pay £10 to insure 500bhp cars, where as they pay £3,000 to insure 1.0's. So its not all bad lol
