Im just putting a pre lambda xe into my nova and the loom off the engine has one big main plug to wire up, it has the following colours, can you fill in the blanks?

Red = main positive
Blue = Fuel pump
Blue/red =
Green = Rev counter
White =
Brown/Blue = Ecu light
Black/yellow = Ignition live

Tried the engine quickly with the colours i know connected and the ecu doesnt seem to come on?

Do you mean the big round x5 plug? That's connect to the started and battery wiring? If so bin that and use the nova starting and charging loom.

No benn its a square ish plug (6 Terminal) similar to one off my nova gsi loom (5 Terminal) but the colours are in different places. ive tried the haynes manual and failed!

The starter and charging loom is seperate and is wired in already. its just the wires that go back through the loom to the ecu and sensors i presume.

You won't know if the ecu is "on" fella, crank it and see!

the lack of an audible click could be because you seem to have the fuel pump wired up to the coolant sensor, try red/blue as fuel pump relay and blue as coolant temp sensor. That's what it is on my E16 and I don't think they swap the colours over too much across models tbh.

I looked on the wiring guide in articles and lee posted about the early looms saying that they used the blue as the fuel pump and black and yellow as switch live , when i have looked this figures out because now the relay clicks when ignition is turned on and the blue wire is 2.5 but the blue/red is smaller than it should be.

I would crank it but it has no exhaust and the dash is out due to my putting the full gsi trim in as well as the engine lol

I've never seen blue as the fp. Only ever red/blue. Can you get a pic of this plug?

I had them connected that way benn and the fuel pump relay didnt click on ignition?(but i didnt have the ignition live wired up either , then i changed them to the way lee said in articles on how to wire a 2.0 and the relay now clicks, should i change them back? and whats the worst that can happen lol

whats the worst that can happen lol

Your fuel gets hot and it starts running on coolant.

Thinking about it the relay would click as long as it has ignition live, but the pump wouldn't run, does the pump prime when you turn the ignition on currently? (assuming XE's do this, I think they do?)

Couldnt really tell its a intank one so i will take the fuel lines off and see if they pump the juice out lol

The fuel pump wire should be 2.5mm though and on the engine loom plug the blue is 2.5mm and the red/blue is 0.75 i think

Going onto a gsi loom mate? The blue on the nova loom is for the temp sensor, the blue on the astra gte (20xe loom) is for the fuel pump.

The early looms are different colours i had the same problem, i made a thread about it actually ill see if i can find it

Just this second found it rich thanks matey

Red = main positive
Blue = Fuel pump
Blue/red = Not required (speed sensor or abs)
Green = Rev counter
White =
Brown/Blue = Ecu light
Black/yellow = Ignition live

Will try it tommorow as i dont think the neighbours will like it lol

Tried to start it today and the fuel pump has no feed and its not sparking, could this be the crank sensor that causes this or is it a wiring issue?

When testing the wires at the coil pack i have a permanant live and a good ground the a green(rev counter?) and a black and red?

Should the black and red be live when turning over?

Changed the crank sensor today still no spark? coil pack is warm? Anybody know how to check the coil pack ie which terminals for resistance readings?

I didn't think any astra GTEs ran a coilpack or do you just mean the coil?

I thinking its your ignition live maybe.

its an early loom so the ignition live is with the rest of the wiring black/yellow iirc. hes got another thread in mechanical
