View Full Version : Fixing a leaking radiator?

Hi, not a Nova but question goes for any car I imagine.

My radiator is leaking from the bottom corner, where the plastic side meets the main rad body/core section. It looks like it's separated slightly and broken the seal.

Does this sound repairable for less than the price of a new radiator? Any DIY ideas?

Get you home method would be a rad weld or Kseal not sure if its repairable seens as a new rad cant be that much these days :)

Cheapest I've found for a new rad is £129.

cant you get one from a scrappy
and even if its not a nova, maybe a bigger model like a mk2 astra or something, im sure they all fit.

also i would say, dont repair it otheriwse you will always be worring about it breaking and it probably will break tbh

Rad weld (as in the stuff you pour in the water system) is really bad.
As it will seal up gaps and suck in the whole system.. Like the pump and stat..

It's a 1992 Volvo 940 2.3 Turbo. Don't think I can find a bigger rad than what's already on it. lol

Looking at the sizes on websites, the AC model is loads bigger than non AC too. Weird.

put an egg in it. it cooks as the water boils and fills the hole where it leeks out. it will get you home then buy a new one. cant bodge a radiator im afraid you just make it worse.

Been running about it in the last few days, only a slow leak, will fit a new rad at some point.

therealnovaboy, surely you'd need to carry some eggs around with you if you use that method to get you home lol

I was told to put an egg in it before posting this up actually yeah. So just whack a raw egg in the header tank and it'll not damage the rest of the system?

my mate used to heat up his pie on the manifold of his 1.2 nova. needless to say he said it tasted a bit like petrol.
