View Full Version : Which 1.6 8v engine is this?
Is this the 1.6 Big block SV engine?

I'm fairly sure it's not the E/C16SE engine.
Thoughts?

early rocker cover ? like a gte or even a caverlier engine ?
From memory GTE was E16SE, I had one and it did not look like this.
It looks large that's why I was thinking it was the big block from the Cav's.

id say 1.8 from astra sri 1988
i would have said it was a 1800 or 2.0 from a cav defo not a nova engine
its the old 1.6 from cavs, afaik their big block. the engine that wuda came in cavs everybody wants inner cv's out of!

/\ As above. It's a big block 1600.
Caterham must have access to the supplies of them. My ex GF's Dad has a Caterham exactly the same. Registered on a 2000 (W) reg with that same engine.....
whats with the ignition though? Custom setup?

Compact dizzy cap. Like on 2.0 NE & XE's.
Ah ok, never seen one before, looks more like electronic wizardy :) Actually probably have seen one, never noticed it before though. Did XE's come with 2 types of dizzy then? As I'm sure I've seen them with normal orange dizzy caps? Although I may be thinking of chimps carbed XE

probably a 16S engine with a V or E head and what looks like a 1.8/2.0 mpi rocker cover on it to me
I think jimbob has it right, probably a 16S. The 16sv was smallblock carb engine found in older astras, and cavs too iirc
