is it hard?
i bought a complete engine which i have poached for bits to build mine, i believe it has a race clutch of some description and didnt know wether to transplant it, if its hard i may just try it anyway
any way of checking if it is an aftermarket clutch and also if its any good?
are they worth having?
Apparantly its a 15 minute labour job for a mechanic since they simply have a cover which slides over! Check the bible! If it seems too daunting, then get a mechanic to do it!

as long as you have got sumn pressure plates and a slide hammer off sorts its easy
take off passenger wheel
undo bolts/nuts with 13 and one 14mm socket (if its 5 speed)
remove circilp (internal type)
undo the splined thing (cant remember the size but tis the same as the VW CV-Gearbox bolt size)
put Long M8 bolt into where you jsut took out the spline thing
pull out the shaft (should be able to do it by hand, all 3 ive done were)
undo access plate unider car (11 mm socket)
get clutch depressed and fit "clips"
undo the 8(i think) bolts holding the clutch to flywheel.
refit in reverse
change the Clutch Releas Bearing while your there
its very easy if your methodical

Do I need these as I dont have them?
& how much are new clutches if I were to do it myself?

you definatly need pressure plates as these hold the clutch cover to the flywheel when undoing it. They are not expensive to buy and you can make them yourself if you want. The slide hammer is only required if you cant get the gearbox layshaft out. Both times when i changed clutches on my cars i have had to use slide hammers

The Way I have done it.
Step 1, Remove Gearbox
Step 2, Remove Clutch
Step 3, Refit Clutch
Step 4, Refit Gearbox
It even worked afterwards

Yeah I think so! :D Thing is I dont know weather it's worth modding at the mo as I really want a mk2, so may get a standard mk2 cheap & start from scratch. What do you think? Im going to borrow a digi cam to take photos of my existing car, so id like to know weather to stick with it or get a mk2...
Ade, Yes il be taking the car in the garage for a new clutch saturday, I cant really tamper about with it really cos if a mess it up im nackered as I use the car daily for work.
