So the question is this, on my 86mk1 i have a flap type lockable one like what the mk2's have, so is this correct to the spec of the car?
Or is it meant to be flat, with NO flap and have the normal lock in the center?

Answers please..

If your key fits the door and the petrol cap it's most likely original

/\ early mk1's didnt come with the flap covering the lock.

The locks arnt that hard to swap over though.

How about getting one of them green universal caps lol

Early mk1's came with flap style wing mirrors too but his 'normal' ones are probably original lol :p

Well i knew some early mk1's had the non flap style hence why i was asking if it's "possibly" due to spec, and as for wing mirrors i think thats spec specific, and on very early cars, A-B-C reg etc.

Mines got a flap type (not the same key as the door) so I'm guessing it's not correct?!

Good job i just sourced a none flap style one for it.

If it's a different key I'd say it has definitely been swapped at some point :thumb: Probably left on the roof at the petrol station lol

Must been a long time back, as the cars one owner from new, and the guy probably bought it from a Vaux dealer, and as the ware on the key is almost as much as the door/ignition one must of been 20yrs ago! lol

Humm so it could be "low" spec cars that had none flap then??

Could be the spare door/ignition key lol

They Used To Have Both Types Different Chassis Ranges

My B reg mk1 had the exposed lock, GSi has the flap type.

I would hazard a guess that the flap type was introduced when the mk1 was facelifted in 87/88 ie when the side mouldings went from solid clip on to rubber stick on.

my a reg sr doesnt have a flap, but it has a none flappy wing mirror. the wing mirror does have a soft black rubber bit around where it meets the door where as later ones had hard black plastic. think they changed when the mk1 was facelifted as craig green said

Ahh.. my 86 has rubber side strips, and had a flap type cap with it, but I'll put the none flap on it for the retro looks! :thumb:
