View Full Version : TWIN 40 DCOE's on a SRi
hi, i own a 93 sri, and have read in many places twin 40 dcoe's can make a cracking power gain mod, but i know something will have to be done with the ecu, so what needs to be done, how do i get it done and how much will it cost me??

the Sri already has considerable increase in performance over exactly the same engine on standard carb, so putting 40 DCOES on it IMO would be more hassle than its worth
you wont notice ALL that much extra power from your engine
and to be honnest with scrapping the injection system etc, its more hassle than its worth..........
had you had a carb engine i would have said yes, but to dump the injection and that for not too much gain :( wouldnt bother
so would u say splashing out on a mazel induction system would be a better path to walk down?

mike is wrong really as the main reason it is more powerful than the carb model is the fact the head is better
the ports are round and the valves are bigger (same size as the 1600)
you will get a good increase by going twin 40's i reckon. the problem you will have is dizzy as u will be on a dispack.u need to get a dizzy and coil pack etc from a carb model and wire that up .
altenator bracket needs modding etc.
cant see it being a major problem to convert to 40's tbh

yeh - higher compression ratio and better head is the major performance factors
u will need a set of 40's and a manifold for a GTE/GSi engine as they both have the same round ports as a SRi
u DO NOT want a 1400SR manifold since they have small sqaure ports and they aint gonna match the head
prolly lookin at the same gains as SR if not more
ive heard of folk running 40's on the GTE engien and producing 140bhp
shouldnt be that far off with the right mods i think

but surely removing all the injection system and ecu is going to be a bit of a nitemare?
and i dont know if you can get a manifold to suit?
ive only ever seen square ports or castellated ones like on a 1.3
although i guess there must be a manifold to suit if you say its the same as the 1.6 as theyre about.
hhmmmmm
well anyway, SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE NOW lol
with all the agro ive had doing it. i wish i had just dropped a 1.6 or bigger engine in.
(i know i dont mean that really - its just cos its pi$$in me off!) im sure when its done itll be fine.
just your money is much better spent on say a 1.6 engine than what its going to cost to install setup blah blah blah.
BUT once its running of course ill have a completely difrent opinion
drop the 1600 in, then get the twin 40's when u get bored (in my experience about a month later)

stu mate i would take ?30
thanks for all the replys, but im still a little hazy, see i dont know a great deal about cars, so could i have a step by step, numbered list of what i need to do the change, and how much it is roughly likly to cost?!

the easiest way to do it would be to remove the injection system and disconnect the loom from it - but leaving the rest inplace
hooking up the 40's with a pressure regulator and hoping the ECU will ignore the lack of injectors and still fire the spark plugs properly
if it DOES your sorted
if not then your gonna need to get either an SR ignition system or some aftermarket jobbie
so u need:
40's
1.6 GTE manifold
pressure regulator
for basic setup and possibly:
ignition system and dizzy from SR/aftermarket

not forgetting gaskets and linkages etc and the carbs will need jetting and setting up properley at least once by a rolling road
