Parkers says 39mpg.

How do you drive it, heavy right foot? Do you ease off early for junctions or slam on the brakes? Is it well maintained? Are the tyre pressures and geometry correct?

it seems to use less fuel if its driven quick, whats goemetry? and he breaks hard at roundabouts but hes always left his breaking late and it diddnt effect it til we put the 1.4 in

geometry is what direction the wheels are pointing (not controlled by the steering wheel)

if its just been an engine swap then I'd guess there is some fault with something like a lambda sensor/coolant temp sensor etc.

would having the tracking done sort out the geometry???? and are lambda sensors and coolant temp sensors easy to locate and swap???

Yes (if its done properly), yes, and yes. Lambdas can be expensive though - might be worth removing your existing one and cleaning it first

My 2.0 Golf easily gets 39+ on a run. I even had 38 on an uphill run past Bristol airport for those that no the location (A38), that was overtaking on dual carriageway stretches.

As said above, you have an overfuelling issue I expect. Temp sensor being the obv culprit.

I used to get anywhere from 26mpg to 36mpg out my corsa sri, (36 was going stupidly steady!) .
The car was very low geared though, would hit the rev limiter at around 104mph (scary!)

Any way the vehicle normally returned around 33mpg in my everyday driving going to and from work.

is it the 16v sri? i had a 1400 sport and it was awful on fuel, my nova on twin 40s was better even driving sensibly it would only give around 30mpg

erm 8valve i think, i now the air pipe is split, it has a bore exaughst on, performance air filter but it was just as bad with out it, it miss fires loads and when you pull away in 1st it stuters and you have to rev it hard for it to move

Stuart

split air pipe is the problem.

There's your answer. The splt pipe means the engine isn't getting the correct amount of air to fuel ratio. If the engine detects too much air going in it will chuck in more fuel and vice versa. Hence your kangarooing, having to rev to move it. All this extra revving obviously uses more fuel.

This happened to my dads car, the rubber air hose split even with duct tape it will eventually come loose and happen again. Was awful to drive, less power more fuel. In the end I gave up and bought a new piece all of £25 but it was probably the best £25 I had spent.

Go get that sorted then and only then will you know whats going on :thumb:

what about super glue in the split??

Welsh Dan
05-10-09, 10:48 PM
Superglue is designed to glue skin and then break down. Use gaffer/rape/ducktape.

should not matter on a sri as there is no airflow meter inbetween the pipe and throotle body
