Hi,
I would like to start a project on a nova but dont want to go for the redtop or standard 1.6i engine. I would like something more economical and liveable and i dont mind not having fantastic speed. Is there any more modern diesel engines that might fit the nova instead of the standard 1.5 TD.

Im thinking maybe the 1.7 isuzu diesel engine that was in the 99, 00 astra. Would this fit with ease, does anyone have any other suggestions or information on this subject.

Regards,
Conor.

1.5d 1.5td as std. or if you swap all the bits over then the 1.7td (isuzu type) will fit.. anything else is too much bother & expense

oh, and the mounts are different on a diesel shell, so start with a diesel nova.....

or get a c16se & fit a wr f13 gearbox with a 3.74:1 diff and it will run of fresh air in top...

IIRC the whole chassis leg is different in a derv nova so not even worth the hassle of fitting a diesel to a petrol car.

Speak to baxter lol

The car i intend to start with already has the 1.5td, so mounts should be ok.

will i have to use the 1.7td gearbox or can i re-use the one from the 1.5td with the 1.7td engine.

Are the 1,7td out of late model astras (1998,1999,2000) still compatible with the nova.

Conor.

a 1.5td Nova can make silly boost
I would stick with that tbh

why would you want to put such a **** engine into a car lol

just thought it would be nice to have a resonably modern diesel in the old nova as a everyday run around, surely the 1.7td is a lot quisker than the 1.5td

The Newer engines are **** engines, there vauxhall ones, unreliable and generaly rubbish. and wont fit in.

The older izuzu engines are much better, more reliable and easyer to tune.

you want a 1.7td out of a cav. if you dont modify it then you'll get about 60mpg.

do the 1.7td cav engines fit straight into nova?? doyou need to change box too.

what bhp do cav 1.7 have unmodified?

if you already have the 1.5 then you have everything to make the 1.7 fit as theres lots of stuff you need to swap over. now you can use the 1.5 flywheel and clutch to keep your current gearbox and not sure

Youll have to fit a Diesel chassis leg into a petrol shell unless you buy a Diesel Nova to start with.

Its not hard tho, me an nick managed it with er no measuring at all actually.

True, fly by wire :(

Mines the same :( electronic throttle sucks :( the ECU light came on when i took the GM stereo out, that said it all really

electronics are ace, only those who are gays and think a few wires and a CAN simulator box is scary lol

dont know if its just mine but my 1.7 td cav engine that has a 1.5 clutch cant handle it with the pump wound out a bit! just to warn you. but other wise great conversion:thumb:

does the 1.3cdti really go into the nova, I assumed with all the electrics this would be a nightmare, what kind of power do they have.

73bhp/123lbft or 88bhp/147lbft. Considerably more torque than the 1.5 Nova engines and 1.7 Cav engines.

Why is the 1.3CDTi called a 1.3 anyway, its 1248cc which makes it a 1.2?

Stuart

1.3 sells, 1.2 wouldnt.

has anyone ever done this 1.3cdti conversion??

Stuart

doubtful as you do need lots of electronics from the donor car, or a standalone diesel ECU (which are rare tbh). Its not hard, just lots of wiring.... most people get scared with that as its so easy yet classed as witchcraft lol

Lots an lots of electriconical gubbins stuart :( my 1700 has absoloutly funk loads of wires/relays/ecu type things all over the place!!
