Hi all,

Been having some DJ'ing lessons lately purely because its something I've always wanted to do for as long as I can remember and also because its the best way I can actually use some decks without forking out £000's lol

I'm extremely tempted to buy some Pioneer 400's with a DJM 700 on 0% finance but seriously think I would be living dangerously close to been totally skint lol

Anyways after about two/three hours of lessons I was able to put together a short 30 minute mix comprising of 6 songs (albeit pretty commercial) which I am quite happy with for my first attempt. I'm happy with my beatmatching but need to work some more on my fading in/out points and subtlety!

Please have a listen and good feedback along with any critiscism would be most welcomed as its all a learning curve :thumb:

Tracklist:

Shakira - She Wolf (Calvin Harris Remix)
Ian Carey Project - Shake It (DJ Kez Remix)
Dizzie Rascal - Holiday (Laidback Luke Remix)
David Guetta feat Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over (? Remix)
MGMT - Kids (UCL Custom Remix)
Flat Eric - Flat Beat 2009

i use to play a lot ill have a listen when i get home. i only used vynil tho.

the djm 700 mixer is really good and worth every penny and the effects are good to you can mix and lose it(beat) and still make it sound good.

good luck mate

Downloading now. I hate megaupload, next time upload it to www.dnbshare.com - then I dont have to wait for the download or get bombarded with advertisments :) Also dont be tempted to get a DJX700 behringer mixer (cheap version on the DJM 700) as its total pish, I have one! I've got to say I think the Allen and Heath x:zone 62 is by far the best mixer I've come accross.

Definetly go for the 400s! I use them at home, stick to the djm 400 mixer aswell if you are struggling to stretch to the 700. Although it would be good to have the 700, incase you want to upgrade the decks as you get better.

Im seriously tempted by the new cdj 2000s.

I like it mate - especially with only 2-3hrs of lessons! Either you're a natural or you've god a dam good teacher. It took me ages to get my beatmatching right (was on belt drive vinyl tho).

As you've already said yourself, just need to work on the fading in/out points. I'm sure your teacher has told you this but in house tracks something tends to change every 15 or 30 secs so its easy to monitor on CDJs. So on the track thats playing have it counting down and say when you hear a change around say 2mins to the end kick your other track off. You'll then find that is the track thats coming out takes something out (ie symbols) every 15-30 secs the one coming in will add them. You won't get any clashing then. You obviously need to tweak it for different tracks but hope you get the idea.

recording always is a bitch! When I recorded my 1st mix it took me about 8 attempts before I was close to happy with it. I was recording the best one I'd done so far, almost perfect (for a novice), then my housemates, girlfriends parents decided to drop in to see where she'd been spending all her time. I was then politely asked by his girlfriend if I could "turn that music off, my parents won't like it" - IN MY OWN HOUSE!!! Concentration went out the window and I turned it off anyway.
