You should have found that out 1st or be prepared to wait.

18 is rather young for a valver IMO. :)

No chance IMHO!

Why do you need a 2l at 18?

Cant you drive or something?

Insurance will be quite hard for you too find, even once you do they will sting you in the **** for it.

(2000+ all day long)

Good luck my friend, however you really should have looked into it before you started the conversion (unless you have a pile of mooooolaaaaa).

After trying alot of company's (including Sky) I found that HIC / FLUX where the best bet for me

£700 for a 1.6 16v @ 20 years , 1 ncb

Fool.

TBH, I can't think of any insurance companies that would touch you at that age on that car. Even Liverpool Victoria are a bit more conservative about conversions now as well.

I'd say wait til you're 19 then go from there.

Seriously though, at £4000 a year for cover + the build cost. Is an XE'd Nova really that entertaining? I think not.

Infact the more I think about the price, I just can't get over it.

i had a redtop when i was 17 and it cost me just over 1,000 for the year with norich union or should i say (aviva) now. i got pulled over loadz of times and the police always used to say it showed a 2.0 16v nova on there system so was all leigit. when i turned 18 i had a 2.0 16v turbo gsi astra wich cost me just shy of £4000 with my nine points declared but i must be honist was worth every penny lol . think you just might have to break the bank and pay it

MK999
02-10-09, 09:03 PM
so between being 17 and 18 and gaining 9 points you didn't get banned for the totting up rule being in your 1st 2 years of driving?

reid_em
02-10-09, 09:07 PM
i got six points when i was 17 for delivering chinease without buisness insurance but didnt have to declair on redtop until policy was due for renual. when i got me six points i lost me licence until retook both parts of me test and then i was given a full licence where i could have 12 points. and then when i just turned 18 got a nother 3 points for a bald tyre so yea thats the story. sorry if i have bored you and dragged it out but you asked!!:)

Tsk, any change in circumstances (that includes point on license) should be declared to insurance. If you had to claim during that period they could have withdrawn their cover and left you in the lurch!

tbh if a 18 year old wants a 2lter nova and is prepared to pay the insurance why not? most likely the money would only get pissed up the wall.

What was the spec on that? My insurance always seems to be silly expensive despite being in a good postcode (B) etc etc. Best I could do this year on my 1.6 was £975, that's 21 1 year ncb no claims/accidents/convictions. Was that a daily as well? I.E not limited mileage?

tbh, its looks like most 17-18 y.o are paying crazy money anyway, for 1.0/1.2's so £1500 for an SR might be worth the extra...but as for 2-3k for a XE, thats a joke!

Technically not the way you should be insured if you are the main user. ;)

If you had an accident, any company would wriggle out of paying up.

Try Richard Egger Insurance if you use your car for motorsport/trackdays...?!

Just insured my 1.3 SR for 880 fully comp. 19 with 1 year NCB as a named driver, insured for road rallying, autotesting and trackdays. 5000mile limted mileage. Premium doesnt change much when i put cage etc in next year

projctnova
06-10-09, 12:52 PM
yea people think you get cheaper insurance by being a named driver but the lack of no claims when you finally go it alone and the fact that if you are found to be the main driver then they wont pay out.

i pay 1300 with competition car insurance thats with every modification declared although they told me i don't need to notify them off bhp changes or other upgrades as my car is in top class as heavily modified. only thing i would need to inform them is cc for legal reasons. i'm insured liability for road rallys and road sections of stage rallys. but you ned proof of competing and my car is msa logbooked which helps. 5000mie limit but will never reach that in a year

You're still not getting this are you?

All the experience on this forum in insurance matters has pretty much already replied to you telling you that you will be lucky to insure an XE Nova at 18.

Also telling you that they know of no place that will touch you at your age.

Do your own research you lazy little sh1t, or wait til your 19.

Ha ha this thread is really funny ! As for the question in hand, like everyone else has said just ring around ! no one on this forum is going to be able to give you an insurance quote ! If you've got enough money/you are crazy then yeh you will find someone to insure you but why ? what's the point ? such a waste of money, i know that you'll be thinking nahhh, why not ? but trust me you'll look back at yourself in a few years and think why did i spend all that money on insurance. Secondly you've gotta understand why insurance is so difficult/expensive to find on a xe'd Nova at your age as it's an absolutley MASSIVE risk for any company who covers you !

Directed @ custardcreme fella..

You're a complete funking tool mate.
Illegal insurance, posted on a public forum...
Seriously, WTF did you expect with a car that light, and that powerful with such little experience in driving?

Just f*cking lucky you didn't cause someone else serious injury. I hope you lose your licence.

Idiots like you shouldn't be allowed on the road!

If you become a club member you get a tasty discount with them that will make the £10 fee for the year more then worthwhile, they are club sponsors

Or you can PM Ollie on here (username skyinsurance (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/member.php?u=31439), tell him RJ sent you :d)

As said though, if you join the club you'll be eligible for insurance discount - the £10 membership fee could save you far more than that :)

Yet again he speaks sense!

As, I believe insurance companies read forums, and as with most "Businesses" they have a single database!

So, admitting it on a forum, doesnt take a genius to work out who and when you crashed!

So you crashed, ok, we all make mistakes, but you could be doing 10 years now, for being "Above the law"

And the vboa thing, nova's have a bad rep anyway, and tbf, looking around some of the car shows, it doesnt take a genius, seeing 17yr old lads in c20let powered corsas and such;)

Personally, I think we need to remove the thread, and start the 18yr old one off again, as this is a topic that needs to be kept off the net:thumb:

On the other hand, the thread serves as an example to those who think they can get away with an undeclared engine conversion.

Despite what some members may think, we're not a nazi state and whilst yes we could delete this thread and ban the OP, we can't be held responsible for his actions, merely voice our disapproval of it - which I think has clearly been done in this thread, some in slightly less articulate ways than others. Plus, insurance companies may well look on forums, but you can guarantee they'd have far better luck watching ebay for all the "still on logbook as a 1.2" adverts.

I'm closing this thread as no doubt it will descend into petty arguments which we don't want, but I won't be deleting it or handing out bans. Not saying anyone else might though lol
