I'm convinced one of my CV joints is on it's way out. I get a random clicking/knocking noisewhen I pull away and brake. The problem is, the boots haven't split so theres no obvious damage. Is there any good ways to testing them short of taking all the boots off and getting covered in grease?

raise it up and rock the shafts you will hear which one is on the way out because it will click each time you rock the shaft, :)

ATE's. I will give comptoncj's method a go tommorow at work and double check everything else as there is nothing worse then CV grease imo. The only problem is it only does it when there under quite heavy load. So I may struggle to get them to click and knock. I have my old XE shafts here and they only covered about 5 miles before it became a garden ornament so hopefully its an outer so I dont have to buy a new one.
