Bike carb port matching

Hi-I've just got a big valve head from ebay for my 1400.It's marked "14" and it has square inlet ports.I intend to fit bike carbs and will be making my own manifold.Is there any reason why I can't match the manifold runner shape-round tube,to the square port,by grinding a little from the port walls.I only want to smooth the entry into the port to match.Are there any oil or waterways to avoid?? Thanks

why not square the tube a bit and/or, using something like chemical metal, build up the round manifold pipe to match.

ps. seen the chemical metal trick used on a racing quad...

Hi-I didn't think of squaring the tube-I can build up the pipe with weld.I'll double check tomorrow to see how much I'd need to add/remove.Thanks

don't waste your time, get a 14SE or 16SE round port head and spend your money on that

Hi-Thanks for the replies-I took a chance bidding on it from ebay-no pictures-didn't expect it to have square ports but it has 38mm inlets and 31mm exhausts.If I was to get a se head in the future at least I'd have spare valves etc.It was only 99p so maybe not so bad...

Hi-Is that an ordinary manifold with the carb/injection side cut off?What carbs are they? Thanks

It's a custom manifold which Bogg Bros made about 4 years ago. The carbs are R1's.
