cat free sris? - i THINK so, although now thinking about it i dont know :?
best place to have a look on the net at least is www.novabug.co.uk for histories of models etc.
in fact thinking about it all SRi had cats i think. so ignore me.
gsi/gte/sr - sporty models etc, sit about 15mm lower than base model novas, e.g base, trip, merit etc
some say 10mm lower mike says 15mm some say 20 or even 25mm :O
All i know id they do defo sit lower cause i saw tilly GTE at mk and thought it had been lowered a bit but nope, lol

nova sri's had the same suspension setup as gsi so they would be slightly lower than sr's i think neway. Magnex used to do a exhaust for sri ( cat or non cat) so i suppose some didn't have cats
far as i know they all came with multec ignition which means lambda sensor+cat.

In brief.
Production of the Nova SRi was to superseed the SR.
It was produced from 1992-1993 only.
Even early J plates come with cats. They do have lamda sensors.
When Vauxhall emptied the parts bin to fit suspension they had no SR eqiupment left so it got GSi suspension which sits 15ml lower than an SR as standard.
The same as the brakes, they come with vented discs as standard with GSi calipers as Vauxhall had run out of SR stuff again.
Hope this helps.

And yes it was new Multech injection system which was introudced on this model.
The Heads where manufactured by Lotus and they also had a hand in the engine management, the first run of the C14SE lump (The Nova SRi engine) in question produced 109bhp so it had to be toned down
Hope this helps.

what did they do to tone it down then? they should had left it at 109bhp!

They couldnt for emission reasons plus even original testing of the GSi did not produce that much. The GSi pulled 108bhp in testing.
They had to tone both down for emissions and so
They could sell the 82bhp Nova 1.4SRi
and the 100bhp Nova 1.6 GSi.
It is a shame, but is goes to prove Vauxhall bulid blinders of engines.

Ste_sa is right naturally they would sit lower,
with regard to mikes point as well i see totally where you are coming from with standard suspension i have never really seen a noticeable difference but this was claimed from Vauxhall.

Well the Sri came with a sunroof too, and as for a heavier engine, would there really be much in it. I thought the the block was identical with just a different bore or stroke.
Also when you are looking at old cars the suspension will have compressed up and lowered a bit anyway, if you think about it when you line up all three cars they will look similar, because the SRI/GSI have the same suspension and the sr will be a few years older so will have probably got knackered suspension on. Just an idea
