im thinking of putting twin 40's on my nova sri.
the nova SR is single carb as standard. so would that mean i can just get the nova SR set up for carb and just buy the twin 40's and inlet? and a set up?

new to the whole carb thing so...help is needed http://corsasport.co.uk/board/images/smile/smile.gif

basically its going to be the same as fitting T40's to a 1.6 engine.

quite simply it is an expenditure of around £500 to go back thirty years in engine technology.....that 500 quid would make your injection motor go fairly rapidly if spent wisely.

yeh but the carbs sound so sweet!

but a decent spec MPI'd lump sounds horny!

what would you do with £500 to an injection engine?
but.. i do like the sound of carbs, and performance increase

what has the rest of the engine had done to it? as carbs on their own wont make "that" much of a difference to an std engine (by the way an exhaust isnt a mod in my book)

the SRI heads are really good as standard to be fair. With a decent cam the 40s would see 120bhp, which IMO is a good gain 50% of engine power

cam + management would probably see the same with good mapping

Could you really get it cammed on standalone management and then mapped well for under £500 though?

no

but there and again you cant do 40s for £500

I've seen 40's on a manifold for 250 before now, setting them up can't cost that again surely?

the engine is standard at the moment. cam and carbs sound good to me, ive been offered a kent cam and pulley for a good price and ill keep an eye out of a bargain with carbs.

anyway back to the subject. how do i go about converting the engine to carb, what will i need all together, as i said im new to th whole carb thing so help is needed

from post#2

cheap carbs might not be best economy..... bent spindles etc can make them cheap and accrue the old wives tales of needing to be set up all the time etc.

ive been told you can use the 1.6 inlet to fit the carbs?

Paul

Right,

You need to bin the whole loom, inlet dizzy, coil and ECU etc (well not bin sell lol)

You need a manifold that suits the SRi/GTE/GSi cylinder head to take the carbs. Obviosuly you need the twin carbs them selves, a 1400SR dizzy and coil. The linkage for the throttle cable, and finally you need a lower alternator bracket for the alternator.

Then you need to have it setup, to do it right you are looking at £600-1000 depending on what bits you buy new, and what bits you buy second hand.

i was told that i will need to change the fuel pump aswel?

buy an adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Stuart

am I on ignore? lol

I did say it was 95% the same as fitting to a 1.6

you will need a pressure reg that can go form injection pressure down to 3psi for the carbs.

in all honesty though, Cam + management + good setup would be as good if not better than carbs, plus a feck load less cocking about
