View Full Version : How would you mod a Nova?

MK2 Cat
27-09-09, 07:32 PM
I'm wanting a 1.2/1.4 Nova for a second car.

Wheres the best one to get a reasonably priced slightly modded or standard one?

My next question, is how would YOU mod a standard one?

Coilover springs?
Air induction kit?

Nothing too heavy tho, just something to turn a few heads and show my brother that Nova's arn't a waste of money.

Thankss

to buy one you can visit "cars for sale" on here, pistonheads, ebay.
as for styling nothing more than a nice set of wheels, lowered 60mm and a nice 3"tail(exhaust backbox)
something like this;

Makes the thread go from a couple of pages of "strip and XE it" to many many many pages of "show us your tits".

Anyway. Me, I'd sell it and use the money for a saloon. Then I'd V6 it.

lol maybe she's admitting she knows nothing about modding?

as RJ say's, it goes from a couple of pages of strip it and xe it, mainly because she obviously wants none of that lol

I vote for lowering, alloys and exhaust for the looks on the cheap side, maybe rear tints if your feeling really adventurous lol

True to all of that mate (Y)

aha, any engine mods you would do?

Jon_nova1
27-09-09, 07:55 PM
if its a 1.2, don't bother touching the engine

on my old 1.4 i only had an air filter, 1.6 carb:eek: with a 1.2 head and 1.3 inlet (because it flows better than the 1.4) it was faster than my mates GTE on acceleration...lost out on top end, but mehlol

heres mine when it first turned up, which belonged to a female driver

it only had colour coded mirrors/bumpers/sideskirts, alloys and a dodgily attached exhaustlol
It may be lowered too, but not checked that part out yet!

no its not me in the pic lol

I'd buy it to be like my Nova now... But with tubed rear arches with turrets so it could be lower, cav shifter so the exhaust system can be pulled right up to the under side.

27-09-09, 09:43 PM
If it were me, id burn it then eBay the remains as "race/rally/autograss rolling shell" for £15k :)

Think its safe to say its not lowered lol

Jon_nova1
27-09-09, 09:52 PM
me too, i think the suspensions just f*cked on one side, as the other rear arch has been messed with so it doesn't scrape....as you do lol

MK999
27-09-09, 09:56 PM
Just to clear that one up as the owner appears to be somewhat confused, lowered normally implies that the roof does not touch the clouds as you drive along lol

And largely crap question tbh, you're gonna get many different answers as everyone likes different things and they're all gonna relate to that persons car.

Look around the forums/massive nova pics thread on migweb features on here etc see what you like and take inspiration from it. When I got mine I had a look round at various flame red novas for colour combinations and tried to decide what I wanted out of it as well, and as a result it's got a few aspects that can be compared to the well known novas but largely my own ideas with my influence of the motorsport styled bits like the buckets and stripped interior and it's near trackable performance (getting there slowly lol).

let_nova
27-09-09, 09:57 PM
dont think theres any chance af scraping at that height

Jon_nova1
27-09-09, 09:59 PM
course there is, look how the drivers side sits lower than the passenger side lol

hence working suspension on the way lol

Scraping will probably be due to the wheels which are quite blatantly the wrong offset by a fair bit lol

Jon_nova1
27-09-09, 10:22 PM
I'd agree with you, but only one side has had work done on the arch to stop it scraping, the other side (shown in pic) clears it fine, so one side must sit lower than the other :p

I won't know why till the suspension gets changed over, wouldn't surprise me if one sides had heated springs and they gave up on the other, as one side also has a painted door handle and the otherside doesn't, aswell as one side having the door vinyls taken off and the other not lol

right, go get your mums bread bin cut it in half and cut a hole in your bonnet and glue it in, looks sweet and pumps the bhp up 20hp, as its a forced air induction.

LOL bring back any memories?

seriously just look around some pics and get inspiration on what you like.
engine wise if its a spi 1.2, i have found that it runs alot better with the standard pancake filter on top so i wouldnt bother, if its a 1.4 maby some cams or something, depends on the car you want.

muzzy
28-09-09, 12:01 AM
Oh is this a serious question?

ade
28-09-09, 12:02 AM
it amazes me when people ask saomething the amount of tosh people post!

If youre getting a basic Nova just stick to the basics - and as mentioned (somewhere in this 4 pages of crap) if you dont know owt about modding a car keep it simple - small things like tidying up the paint work, changing the wheels to a set of alloys (15's are the norm), perhaps lowering it (no need for coilovers - just a set of 30-60mm drop springs and shocks will do), a nice exhaust (or just a back box), leave the engine alone - you'll not feel any difference if its less than a 1.6 (unless you know what youre doing with heads and carbs).

If youve got the budget to go mad then do so but have a clear plan about what you want to achieve. Dont just stick stuff on for the sake of it...

wwmnw
28-09-09, 12:09 AM
To add to what ade said, the only other thing I would bother changing is the seats, some GSi or Sri seats or anything with bolsters are so much better than the standard seats. Hold you so much better.

Lower 100mm, fit cav gsi wheels, fit stainless backbox with a rolled out tip. that will be nice.

Or you can build a fast and furious nova like the others have suggested.

Why are we so hard on the new members ? lol lol lol

Jon_nova1
28-09-09, 06:06 PM
She shouldn't blame her lack of knowledge on being female, but generally females tend to not be as informed about modifying as well, lads lol they want things done so it looks nice, but might not be informed enough

take my sister for example, she got a mate to get her a suspension kit, then came round here and wanted me to fit it lol

of course they can still know the ins and outs, but how many females want a car to look good rather than know how to fit a suspension kit?

My sister knows little about cars, but hers still looks pretty damn good tbh lol

everyone can argue shes an atw, but

A. do you care?
B. are you going to keep note of the comment and pm her in 6 months time if she hasn't got a car saying "told you so"
C. admit you was wrong if she buys a nova and takes ideas from this thread?

personally i don't care if shes an atw, i take people as they are, im not going to care if someone makes a topic on the internet asking how would would you mod a nova, of course if she blatantly walked upto me and said she had a nova when she didn't, i wouldn't really like her lol

NovaJackie
28-09-09, 06:33 PM
Letting the side down here...

Maybe not an asw, although quite possible that she is as they do show up on here quite often.. :wtf:

Only advice i can give you is try and find out a bit about them before you buy one - they rust, aren't that reliable and can look a tad hideous if your sole intent is to "mod".. better buying a 206 or something in that case.. :tard:

In saying that i'm a girl and i'm on my second one - i've got plenty of very well informed and helpful mates who give me a hand if anything goes wrong with them, a few of whom i've met off here so if you really want one, your in the right place at least! Good luck!
