I have been offered £130 for my C16XE but my plan was to take the head have it ported and polished etc and fit it to my X16XEL block, the lad who wants to buy my c16 wants the original head with it, but if I keep the X16XEL head and have it ported and polished, will it be the same as keeping the C16XE head and having that ported and polished?
XEL is a better head, keep that.

Pretty sure when I looked at it a while back, best combo was a C16XE with X16XEL head, with the X16XE being the better management system between the 2 more common engines (the 2 X's)

I was told the XEL was a better block but the C16XE head was better (I was told the C16XE is a 1.4 bored out so the block is weaker hence why I am using the XEL block) but if I am going to get some head work done then I'm not sure if it will make any difference what head I use.

Depends how much you pay the porter lol If he's basically redesigning the port shape and flow routes then yeah it's just a block of metal that he starts with, but if it's just being opened out and made smoother then starting with a better head is going to yield better results imo.

XEL head is from a low torque engine (MK3 astra, L= Low output or something) so I imagined the 16XE head would be better as standard but when it comes to porting etc I imagine it wouldn't make a difference. I would just like some clarification before I sell something and regret it.

its the inlet manifold that restricts the xel not the head
sbd claim the best head out of the C16 and X16 is the C16 head as the ports a slightly larger...fair enough if having both ported but in theory would be less work on the c16.
the best out the small block im pretty sure is the XEL head with the triangle ports, but i dont know if jenvey or anyone make inlet manifolds for them if wanted carbs/bodies
I have just thought of something there thanks to you phillip, I have an induction kit that will fit the C16 but possibly wont fit the XEL as the ports will probably be different.
I want to stick to my original plan anyway my mate has tried to get me to just put the C16 in but I have a plan and want to stick to it, so I'll just stick to my plan.

From what I can understand of the thread, the plan is to put the worse engine in his car, sell the better one, and then make it worse by taking away it's only saving quality and replacing it with the worse of the 2 heads? lol

It all depends what you have been told really, as I have been told the XEL block go's better with the 16XE head where you have been told the opposite.
The C16XE head is a better head afaik due to it being less restricted, the C16XE has 140 bhp according to Total Vauxhall (look in the back section) so if the C16XE has 140bhp (although it is restricted to 109 or whatever) then surely the head must be better than the X16XEL which is 100bhp ? as standard and with not such a restrictive layout as the C16XE.
at the end of the day its not exactly a race engine you are building so **** it!!! lob it in and as long as it works thats all the matters

If i put a head on a lets say the koenigsegg V8, which afaik is basically a rover V8 that pushes about 600bhp, that had 2mm inlets on it, and took it down to 300bhp, would you use it because it's a 300bhp head?

No, obviously I would use the one that was better suited to the engine, which afaik is the c16 head for the setup I'm doing.

I always thought the C16XE head, as used on the the early GSI corsas, was the best one to use :confused:

where the feck did you find that? i was looking on sbd's website for an ages last night and couldnt find anything. as i know they have a 'how to' on tuning the c16xe too

When you go to their site, you see three things, Vauxhall, Ford and something else, click on Vauxhall above the engine picture and there you go.
