Thats what i done with my cav header tank, works perfect, or use Vanish Oxi Action stuff for stubborn stain removal l:thumb: fizz's around all the black stuff and lifts it!!;)

ive done this to great affect imo pics should say so,
i used a simple method of boiling hot water straight out of the kettle along with say around a 5th of your washer bottle full of jeyes fluid, give the bottle a good 5 minuate shake( until your arm aches lol also watching the lid dont come off!)then leave for a good hour.

use Steradent, false teeth cleaning tablets.

Fill it up to the brim, pop a pill in and let it soak.

I've used them on mine and I use them on my thermos flask once a month to get rid of the limescale build up.
