quite a few have been fitted over the years. basically its the same work as fitting a 16v, but with less power, but on the plus side, theres less to go wrong.

so you have to buy the c20xe conversion mounts. bottom ends are the same, but internals are different?

i would put a c20xe in but everyone had done it and soon as you put your foot down the sound of a redtop is a give away. lol

well, you will have to insure it, notify the dvla & tax it differently ....

and an xe can be made to sound very std......

I have had both and out of the two I prefered the 8valve. It was a very low mileage engine (30k) and it had an F16 box, It pulled very well in every gear. The mileage of the redtop I had I dont know but i think it was high and it had probably had a hard life to be honest, It was on an f20 box and although not slow it seemed to run out of guts at about 110(nova clocks).

On paper the XE is the better engine, Im just going by my past experiences

no replacement for displacement lol

xe's have AFM

8v has same displacement as an XE:wtf:

I am sure the 8v als runs an AFM aswell:roll:

The 8v will be prob be slightly more reliable and robust(But not by much) and it will also be slightly lighter than an XE. Also a lot cheaper to buy than an XE

i was just making a statement lol and i thought he asked if XE's have a AFM

I had a 2.0 8v in an Astra GTE but only ever had 16v in Nova's. Both really good engines but i have to admit the only reason i would fit an 8v is down to the cost of buying the engine.

ive had 4 8v novas and 2 xe novas. imho the 8vis best if its a daily. my xe was scary fast but it was stripped out completely. i personally prefer the 8v motors. look at steves thread on here....

give it a few months and the 8v will be out for a 16v

only pointer i,d give u is obviously a basic rebuild, all gaskets, seals, belts, pump in rod/crank bolts, shells, rings due to the age of the engines, easy done,in will be trouble free as very robust,i never had a single prob with mine no matter how much i threw at it,very gd engines imo

Service and upgrade parts will also be a lot cheaper for the 8v (cams for example, you only need one lol).

If you're thinking XE, do it properly and fit an X30 :d

lol, yeah it would be rebuilt before going in. yeah and less things to but. one cam is the best bit

I had an 2.0 8v in a Nova I bought for all of a week before I ripped it out to fit a 16v, it was lame. Couldn't even give it away then.

The guy who converted it to 2.0 8v had welded the shafts and first run up the road with the proper engine in and it snapped a shaft, says it all really!

Great engine, Dad has the early MK3 SRi Cav and the engine still goes well. They are quieter than any 16v, service and performance parts will probably be more affordable and they dont have any sensor faults. In the 20 years my dad has owned it never once had a sensor fault.

Engines are cheaper to buy I'd think and the F16cr box has done 190k and is still fine.

If I had a spare SEH I'd stick one in my Nova, rebuild it and I'd get a few proper choice mods for it.

If it can shift a 1.1ton Cav to 60 in around 8.7 (+/-) then it can't be too shabby in a Nova that weighs 20% or so less. :thumb:
