View Full Version : I am stumped - out of my comfort zone!

Having been used to mainly playing with my silver Nova, I am not used to normal cars!lol

What do people do for retro-style wheels? I am on a strict budget, so that will rule out of most of the 'proper' wheels such as Ronal Turbos and BBS splits etc...

I was looking at some Astra Champ/Cav Expression wheels, as they are BBS - any pics of these anyone (on a nova)?

Cheers!

The Champion wheels are strictly speaking 'different' to the Expression wheels. Close enough to not worry though IMO.

I've liked the expression wheels for some time, though they are a bit rare in 15" it would seem. As Stu says, fitted to other models in the GM line up incl many Nova Luxe & Merit+ etc.

VX Andy just sold a set.

I had a set of four 15" expression wheels, with almost-new Toyo T1Rs. Sold them for £100

Those Cav wheels arent usually my thing but some cars really do manage to pull them off like above.

Trouble with bbs wheels is that you'll never find a set with the right offset.

chaampions have a polished lip iirc. Some irmscher rims had a polished lip and black centres.

The ones in the pic which I picked up have been repainted.

Didn't know the Champion rims had polished lip tho.

The rims on the above Sport were Irmscher items, Andy got them when Pentagon were clearing out old stock. They are titanium colour with polished rims & I think he paid about £50 for the set brand new.
I bought a brand new set from Germany for 200 Euros a few years back but they were the black version with polished spoke faces & rims. I stupidly sold them to a guy on Mig a year or so after I got them :(
The Champion rims(Also fitted to Astra Mk2 Cabriolet Exclusives) and the Irmscher rims have a slightly different casting to the Expression rims.

the main difference in the champion wheels and the expressions is that where the "points" join the rim, as you can see above the flat bit is under the points on the outer side, on champions the flat bit is exposed and not covered by the "points"

Thanks for all the info chaps - any other wheel brands that are considered 'retro'?

I have Ronal, BBS, ATS....?

I dont think the problem is finding the right looking wheel, its finding one in the correct size and offset.
