ok well at the mo am only getting 70 miles to a tenner bit of motorway and around town dont know if this is normal boost is in creased slightly and the fueling is bak to standard it does my head in when people in mk4 golf tdis etc tell me they get 100 miles to a tenner

so are there any faults i should look for etc to get my economy bak or modifications and also the cav is running on 18s if this makes a difference

can i have your views and input please people would be much apreciated :thumb:

Could be your exhaust is too free flowing, im talking diesel with baxter on msn and he was saying you do need back pressure on them otherwise you lose performance, so if yours is too free flowing it would have the same effect as a blowing exhaust (which makes you use more fuel on a petrol)

i cant remember how many miles i did trax/combe weekend, i know it was epic the fuel useage was mega epic that lol

was it something like 350miles to 15ltrs ?

i know i did 110miles to a needle width lol

but i seem to be on boost alot at the mo, around town with upped fuel, it dont look good, i must be seeing 45mpg :(

If the cats gone then it wont have as much back pressure so this could be it, my mate had a nova luxe with a 1400 SR engine, he put a four branch on it, and a weber 32/34, and removed the center box, we had already been up against each other his and mine, mine had a back box and nothing else and pushed his, it still pushed him after his mods as the exhaust was losing him power!

the company who i spent loads with to do my old diesel,

its lost low down torque iirc

alltho it could of been a tatic for me to spend more money on a custom exhaust lol

surely you are sacrificing turbo spool up and top end power tho

Turbo and N/A exhaust gas flow is very different. N/A engines don't need backpressure to create low-rpm torque, they just need a warm exhaust that flows well. Turbos like as little backpressure as possible - there's no such thing as an exhaust thats "too free flowing" on a turbo car.

Anyways, MPG. The most reliable way to calculate it (instead of saying "I got xyz miles to £10", as you can guarantee there's residual fuel in the tank you may or may not be using) is to fill right up, record how many miles you drive, then fill up again and record how many litres you put in. Miles / litres x 4.56 = mpg.

For your £10 guide though, on a cav td of 45mpg you should see about 90 miles (assuming ~£1.05 a litre)

plus stating miles per £10 is crap as fuel prices vary wildly and also back when I stated driving, £10 was nearly half a tank, so that was excellent miles per tenner compared to nowadays.

MPG ftw!
