Does anyone know where i would be able to get hold of the necessary parts to build a turbo gsi unit??

I'm thinking:
-1650cc low-comp pistons
-Forged internals
-Cylinder head changes?? (Is there a way of lowering the compression within the head?? And i DON'T mean using a de-comp plate...)
-Suitable software (stand alone ecu etc)

I'm planning a winter project so want to get it all right if you catch my drift....

use the search, its been covered more than a v6 conversion lol

whats wrong with a de-comp plate??

dont some people use 2 hg's to lower the comp?

I know they can take more horse power and give a quicker 0-60 but what bhp gain do steel billet rods give you roughly? (im thinking of goin the same way)

Stanley

None?

Theyre just stronger.

that is indeed the pikey way of doing it

lol quicker 0-60 just from changing the rods is epic lol

And true, due to them being stronger they spring up quicker lowering the compression and upping boost.

Not a clue mate, not a clue.

I Thought they was lighter? Therefore giving you more revs.. Like lightening you flywheel?????

I Thought they was lighter? Therefore giving you more revs.. Like lightening you flywheel?????lightening your flywheel wont give you more revs either lol and H-section rods usually are but not necessarily lighter either.

lightening and balencing doesnt give you more revs, it simply allows the engine to rev more freely and often gives you the potential to raise the rev limit.

auzzy-b
21-09-09, 04:42 PM
Sorry i meant QUICKER revs! Surely less weight for the engine to turn round the quicker it will be to get to its top speed, but the top end will be brought down..

this thread is uber WIN!!!!

I think someone is confused between steel rods and a final drive gear ratio swap lmao

spanishfly

No Steel rods give you more power, more fuel gives you more reliabilty and VTEC is just FTMFO YO!

lol

as for the original post.
Good luck finding low compression pistons for the 1.6/1650 bore...they were allegedly made in brazil but no one EVER saw any. You might get lucky if you can get a piston catologue from an engine builder and go through it finding the right sizxe etc to do the job.... that will be fun lol.

The head hasnt got that much space in it to machine out to drop the CR, but since the heads are dirt cheap its not impossible to get a head and make cuts through it to find the thicknesses of the chamber etc.

as for management, megasquirt/dta/mbe/any you want really, they will all do the job. Depends if you are going to map it or take it somewhere.

4E-FTE? Mind you, I'd rather have those pistons in that engine in a Glanza V rather than in a Nova lol

Been there done that & TBH didnt really find that site very useful for small block stuff at all. Theory the same yes, in reality, well erm as said no use at all really.
