right, a couple of weeks ago i bought a mk4 astra van cheap as it needed a fuel pump. finally got round to fitting a pump the other day, got it tested etc etc and all was well. gave her a wash off the other day and was very pleased with the bodywork (its had a respray, will try get some pics at some point) and couldnt wait to get it insured and on the road to give my cav a break.
got insured yesterday and took it home from work, first thing that annoyed me was how slow it was, ive never driven a 1.7td as slow as this!! then i noticed there was a LOT of pressure in the header tank, and yes you guessed it. the head gasket has gone. typical of the luck i have with vehicles. had it on the road less than 24hrs and its knackered already. :mad: :mad:

gutted mate! the 1.7td aint that bad you should try my vauxhall engined mk3 1.7d!! thats foookin slow!

Get that shoite lump out and bung an izuzu one in there, theyre bombproof and miles better lol


Seroiusly just get the gasket done, it cant be too bad a job can it..?

oh yeah il be doing the gasket, just takes the pi$$ abit when ive just spent 400 beans on geting it going and now its in need of a head gasket.

Yeah but even with the gasket and all the tins of beans youve bought its still gonna be a cheap motor aint it?

Thats cars for ya dude, theyre always gonna piss you off and get you down but try and look at it from the upside, i.e. its still cheaper than you wouldve paid for it!

you should try my vauxhall engined mk3 1.7d!! thats foookin slow!im currently driving one(mk3 astravan)with the GM 1.7D engine and have been told its the best engine for that van as its literaly bombproof! uses feck all deisel,and just so easy to maintain!and i agree with them it takes some stick and the deisel guage just never seems to move(yes it does work) lol

Gasket fail could explain slowness.

My Corsa C is a right rapid little thing (Y17 engine)

remember kids its not the size of the turbo that counts, its the size of the intercooler lol

haha mate i did 403miles on 40 quid in m astra derv!! like you say its bombproof drinks no oil or water i love it!!
