Ahh, ill let you off then dude as it would be a bit of a silly exercise to not replace them i hope youre gonna use the same mix of paint from today otherwise you will probably get a differing shade on the doors!

i'd give you rep, but you got your dad to do it lol

Good effort tho, is everything covered in overspray and sticky as hell now ? lol

Use a spreader and a blade to take the overspray off the rubber surounds take your time as no doubt the paint has bridged between the rubber and the body.

yeh thanks, i actually did all the primer, myself as its the best to learn on, then the first coat of red, only got one run! i just didnt want to cock it up as im inexperianced and didnt wanna mess up when it matterd! were gonna flat it and give it another coat of red, when were spraying the doors up :) hopefully will look good, yeh theres a massive story about a bumper i bought/swapped some stuff for that i have been waiting 4 months for, i have given him the bennefit of the doubt but will need to name and shame soon. and im gonna do bumpers black and get some gsi skirts black and should look sweeeet.

Looks very good, nothing a flat and polish wont finish off.

One reason you should have taken the glass out if now you'll have taped lips. Which can peel and mess it all up. Its only a 2min job.

Heard lights arnt to bad, but the indicators take about 10secs to get out! Means you could have painted the lip on the edge of the wings and again no paint edges.
Same with the areial, wiper spindles bonnet badge, door handles.

Curtoise
14-09-09, 11:48 PM
yeh? ok thanks ben, i will do most of these espesh the rubbers and lights and door handles when we finish it, as if i do a final coat when the rubbers are off, there will be one coat over the lip an i right? because i did notice this on close inspection. what polish to use?

the only reason i didnt was because of time, we had 8 hours to final prep and spray ! and my dad was getting cranky because he had to get up at 5 monday morning

Curtoise

and forgot to say thanks for all the guys who gave me advice and helped youve been repped, i couldnt of done it without you!!

Benn

I know it takes longer, but you get the best finish from the best prep.

Most of the bits are easy to get off and take a few mins (or sec with the indicators)

Have you flat and polished stuff before?

warm soapy water, 1500 wet and dry, keep it nice and wet, use a soft foam block and start flatting off till the orange peel dissapears. Then start polishing it up with g3/6.
Watching all the edges and swage lines cause you don't wanna burn thru.

The thing to remember about a respray like this is that you can buff out most imperfections but you need to have enough paint on it first to do it and Buffing isnt exactly simple to do, its an art but even if you spend a while with some T-cut and a rag, with enough time and effore you'll get the desired effect. Best clean the bumpers as the car looks shiney and they look in need of a real good clean.

All said and done, nice job. :thumb:

yeh im waiting a bit before i wash it, i need to put the inside back together, yeh we flatted the primer, before the coclour, and it came out well, what is this g3 stuff and yeh we were worried about the paint being thin, even tho there is quite a bit on there, were gonna flat it all, then give it another coat of red then flat and polish that if it needs ?

i wouldnt flat what you have got on then put another coat on..

try flat and polish what you have already got..

i am sure someone will explain better, but g3 is just like rough t-cut. always use g3 after a flaten down, then polish up with t-cut or finishing compound..then another polish/wax and it should eb good.

right, but i think it might be too thin to flatten now?

you need to flat it off anyway weather you putting another coat on or burishing and polishing, so if you go through anywhere when flatting because paint is too thin - that will give you the reason to put another few coats on. If you dont go through paint - polish it up, simple.
G3 first then G10 imo you can buy these of ebay but its a rip off i would go to any bodyshop supplier and they will have it.

just a tip when using T-Cut always ALWAYS use another polish over the top ie auto glym super resin or whatever you choose. T-Cut has mmonia in which as many will know is what you bleach your hair with hence the reason it brings back the colour of your car but when sunlight reaches your paint work it will fade back to pink or dull.. just a little tip.
