in a year or two i want to put a 2.0 16v red top engine in my nova. i was just wondering how much it is to pay for e.g courteney to do it, or can just a normal mechanic do it? and what it envolves, things like brake upgrades and body/chassis strengthening, i know they must be done but i dont know much about what actually has to be done if u get me?! i know the engines arent that much, i just want a rough idea. i would be grateful for some help, thanks alot. mark.

You can pay courtneay if you like, but its a bit pointless sheeling out all that cash.

Your best bet is to speak nicely to sre_sa. He does them well and cheap.

- Seam weld engine bay
- weld in streghthening plates (www.harryhockleymotorsport.co.uk)
- uprated engine mounts (metal parts, one for drivers side to lower engine, one as a gearbox spacer)
u still need 3 new rubber mounts too, or get hard vibrating competition ones
- driveshafts, cav mk2 1.6 inners, with Nova gte outer CV's.

erm, thats it.

p.s. u can do it yourself. at least have a go

Everyone has summed it up well but...

The redtop are becoming harder to find for a decent one and you are only seeing the poor ones coming through now.

(i sell them with a guarentee if you are looking) i only choose low mileage cars to have the engines out of.

thanks for ur help guys. is it the best conversion to do though? coz i read in a magazine that that 1.8 8v is more practical and gets power down better than the 2.0 16v novas?! it was a drag racing feature and the 1.8 was bout a second quicker. cheers. mark.
