Stay away from rm's!

Ive had a cr 80, cr85bw, yz 125, and an ex cradley heath team kx125, the latter being insanely dangerously mahoosively rediculously quick!

Kx 100s have a tendancy to need rings often due to being an overbored 80, if I were you, get a kx125, 05 or later model!

If you need any help just pm me!

I've had 3 CR 125's of various years and they were all ace, never any trouble but then due to having no were to ride them in Manchester etc etc I went onto Tarmac and bought a Honda vfr 400 nc 30 and the is also awesome!

Hondas are my personal favourite as they seem to be bulletproof!

Why a KX100 specifcally??? I raced one for 2 seasons and moved up to a 125 class pretty quick. Go for a cheap 125 2 smoker. Loads about on ebay. RM or YZ would be my choice. Raced a YZ too for 2 seasons, loved it. Would like an RM or a YZ again TBH but, Nova rebuild, mortgage etc....you get the idea!

i had a kx100 for few years when i was younger. awsome bike, lost count how many tlop end rebuilds i gave it. use to keep up with most 125 and was really easy to control and jump. got 03 cr125 now pretty good bike. alot less maintanance :D.

I had a bad accident on my last bike a 2007 crf250 and broke my foot in 9 places, had to have surgery and its still never guna be right, ibought the bike to try and get back into it but im back on the nova scene (less chance of hurting myself) so it might be for sale !

I wouldnt mind getting one. What puts me off is people always seem to be fixing them?! If I got a decent enough bike for a grand. How often would I need to change sprokets and take the engine apart etc etc?

gunny

I think it depends how much you use them, my little bro and his mate shared a KX85 '08 model and they took it out every day, they re-built it 2/3 times in a month? Top end was fine it was just the rings and one piston. They're competition bikes, not meatn to be ridden all the time.

Christ

and is that something you can do yourself easily enough?

gunny

Very simple engines mate, get used to them and you can fix em in a heartbeat

lol they are a piece of pee to work on. Well the 2 strokes are...i have done a top end rebuild and a clutch change in a field at a meeting once or twice!

Sprockets only need changing if the teeth start bending. Keep the chain correctly adjusted and they will be fine. As for engine, keep the air filter clean, correct mixture of oil/fuel and you'll be fine.

4 strokes need valve clearances checking, regular oil changes blah blah blah...for what you want one for (general field caning i guess?) a 2 stroke would be best.

cheers fella! It looks like they hold their value well too, which is always good.

gunny

Definitely, a 2 stroke for a field session, depending on where you take it you dont want something too big either, i had a YZ250 on the fields we go on, completely pointless, i dint even know it had a 5th gear and the only few times i got 4th it was flicking mud everywhere still.

Pistol Pete

I wouldnt say they hold thier value that well. The price of new bikes has dropped slightly so second hand field caners are easily found on ebay. Just be on the look out for hot bikes. As crossers are not registered like cars, they are prone to thiefs helping themselves and flogging them on. Look for the frame number (extra digits or ground off if nicked!) on the headstock behind the front number board and the engine number are usually on the kick start side.

^I can vouch for this, theres so many stolen crossers floating around (im from a 'shameless style' councill estate and you see them everywhere) doesn't really make any difference wether its nicked or not round here though, you see the police and you go like the wind

Ok mate cheers, its the kind of thing that I would want a few mates to get one at the same time for better banter.

What do the police do if they catch you riding them on public roads? or even private/forestry land for that matter?

gunny
11-09-09, 08:27 PM
I wouldn't know :p

Never been caught lol depends how leaniant they feel and wether your bike is hot or not, you may get let off, you may get your bike taken from you, the law works in mysterious ways.

IMO being an ex racer, it funks me off people caning it on public grass land, by ways etc. Its why clubs lose events, farmers get peed off with people churning up their crops/land. Club together, rent a van and go to a track. Or get a bike rack off the bay.

Christ
11-09-09, 08:31 PM
Haha ok cheers. Theres not that many police up this way but then the catch people commiting serious crimes like not wearing seat belts or parking on double yellows they're pretty damn severe!!! I wouldnt want to get caught on a scrambler TBH.

Christ

I understand that. The thing is im not interested in competing, I have never even ridden a motorbike before. I would of course ask the farmers persmission.

Pistol Pete
11-09-09, 08:35 PM
You dont have to compete at a practice track. Its for just that...practicing.

Perfectly understandable mate. Its just something weve always done, there isn't any farmland around us for miles, so no farmers to piss off, just the councill as theres a large park near us and thats where we used to go. Thing is to everyone round here its not taboo seeing an RM flaying up the road on the back wheel, nobody bats an eyelid, not that its justifyable but its just the way it is. We dont terrorize people and if you see someone walking their dog etc you dont go near them unless its un-avoidable in which case you slow down, dodgy as everybody may be theres a certain level of respect.
