Yep that's how they are, they're still fwd though. Audi's are the same. If it's a 3b passat that is, if it's a 3c it the "right" way for fwd.

The engine is longititudinal on some models (not sure which ones) and the gearbox look sort of like a trans-axel arrangement

Aye they oddly put together, bird i know has a very very fast, very famous one (famous at the ring anyway), i took a look at her Passat an found it all very strange lol

yes the older shape passat's engine layout are longititudnal,the new one's that are out now are transverse layout:thumb:

every shape audi A4 from b5 to b8 models have had longititudnal engine layouts even though most of them are fwd:)

I can tell you why they changed from longtitudinal (sp?).

For the simple reason that the B6 (current) passat uses a stretched Golf chassis and floor plan, so that the could save money in development and use the award-winning multi-link rear suspension set up and drivetrains!

Some other cars using Golf chassis are: the Scirocco, Eos, Tiguan, Touran, Jetta, Audi A3,A4,A5,Q5,TT, Seat Leon, Altea Etc Etc Etc
