Hello people I was just wondering as I was looking at the articles section on how to tune 1.2i nova when it says you need to change the head gasket does this also mean I need to get the head skimmed also can I not just use the existing head bolts.

head shouldn't need skimmed unless it has been warped etc.. or unless you are looking for a little bit more power, and new head bolts is a MUST!:thumb:
I personally wouldn't say new headbolts are a must, myself and a few mates use the old/existing ones with no problems at all. Just torque them up.
But most people do recommend new ones due to them stretching or something. Don't take it from me though.
if its stretch bolts then new ones are a must imo. non stretch can be re-used tho

I didn't realise there were two types . We just throw the old ones back in and torque them up, I guess we have been lucky. or maybe stretch bolts arent as common?
no id say 99% are stretch bolts. all novas will be anyway

Well ours have been fine.. we just torqued them up as normal. Not trying to argue with you or anything as I'm not as clued up as you probably are. maybe its just one of those things that aren't recommended...
i think its the case of how cheap they are its mad to re-use

so what would happen if i re-used the existing head bolts
wouldnt tighten fully. Ive re-used them with no problems before, only time i had a problem was i didnt skim the head and it was warped
head wont need skimming but like many of us have said replace the bolts they only cost a tenner.
