An omega one would do it.. the 3.0 was allegedly 210bhp

Sierra Saph box??

a type 9 ford box, from a pinto (escort mk1,2, sierra etc)

The bellhousing to mate an XE to a type 9 box is quite common and can be bought for about £150ish.

Custom props are also quite a common thing nowadays, and are quite widely available. Do a Google search or something for the best place for this.

With the rear axle, use an Escort mk1/Mk2 item, as they will be roughly the same width as a Nova. Try and find a RS2000 one as they come with a LSD as standard.

209 :p

Its the torque you need to note with a gearbox though. I'd have thought an Omega box would be a tad large for a Nova though? Can you bodge a transfer box from a Cav/Calibra 4WD to RWD?

I'd say Type 9 too. Avoid any Poxhall running gear wherever possible. lol

surely the 3.0 box wont fit a XE...

i'd use a R25 from an omega A (carlton in the uk iirc) c20ne

Type 9. MT75 box is nearly as long as a Nova lol

shortened type 9 is what I'd go for.

the only difference between the 2.5 omega box and the 3.0 is the fact that the 3.0 or r28 has bigger bearings and a tufrided input shaft. they all bolt to an xe. manta lads use em (r25 and r28) behind lets all the time. remember tho all omega boxes are hydraulic clutch, only carlton ones are manual. and a carlton r18 or r20 will hack a xe bt the ratios are dogger.

jack, no it wont work, a lad in mig tried it years ago and the t/x box lasted 200yards.....

manta 1.8 box.....

true but mr mowgli, £250-300 a box isnt cheap. £50 for an omega one is. and the manta getrag gets tetchy after 200bhp and 200ft lb....

I am running an Omega 3.0 R25-R28 (everyone refers to these as simply 'R28') in my Nova, its the same box I ran on my Phase 2 LET Carlton - no issues.

The RWD nutters over the continent are running 400bhp+ through these boxes without issues, and like Sloth says - at £50/box they are most certainly a winner with me.

The R25-R28 can also be converted to cable clutch using the Carlton 2.0 (R25) box components, or just convert to hydraulic clutch.

Other things to note are that when using the R25 or the R25-R28 you need to run a FWD V6 single mass flywheel which spaces to the clutch outwards to suit these boxes, the Manta 1.8 Getreg box can use the normal XE or LET flywheel but they are much weaker and a lot more expensive to buy.

One last thing, you will need to insert a small needle bearing into the end of the XE/LET crankshaft when using any of these boxes. VXL part number: 90105743

Hope this helps.

my mate is runing the standard manta 1.8 box on his 2.5 v6 turbo manta and its lasting fine.
he also used the same gearbox when he had a redtop turbo in his manta and it was making 255 bhp and 285 torque.

thanks for all the info! well thats the box sorted. im new to rwd so should be fun building it and driving it lol. ive got a cossie steering rack so i got power steering as well :d

what rear axels are strong as well? i want to use vauxhall gear as much as possible. my mate has got a manta axel i could get it off him cheap. anyone had problems with them?

just buy a donor omega and chop big bits of the floor out. wide arch the bugger and jobs done.

Sloth's spot on there. Would be much easier to grab a donor vehicle and rip whats needed from it, cause I'm sure buying bits here and there you're going to miss vital parts, atleast with a complete car you can get everything you need.

whats a shortened type 9?

As said, go for the type 9 box as there are still plenty around so if you f*** it, its cheap to replace.

You'll need a sierra clutch plate as well as the bellhousing.

my mates kadett c is running an omega v6 box...taking 320rwhp at moment. even the 1.8 manta box thats rated to 180bhp i think used to take 250bhpat fly.

im going to use redtop with the omega R28 box, manta rear axel, cossie steering rack and the rest will be made and fabracated to fit. will make my own tunnel and subframe myself. im going to get my turbo nova running then will start on the rwd project.

to do my next project ive got the car, engine, steering rack, rear axel, just waiting on getting hold of a box witch i should have sorted, so soon as ive done the other nova i can then get cracking on with the rwd nova :d
