Righto...i have some movies on my laptop, but CBA with having umpteen DVD's kicking about the place. I would like to connect, my laptop to my telly, but how??
I have registered and posted on AVforums but they assume you know your **** from your elbow when it comes to techno tomfoolery!!!
Laptop has HDMI, but telly doesnt (its only 3-4 years old, Panasonic Veira 37in plasma) It has x3 scarts, component (Red/Green/Blue). I bought a cheapo VGA to 3 way component cable but no joy.
Any clues?

you need to set the laptop up so it feeds out of the vga socket, use the function key and across one of the numbers shold be a screen or moniter, hold function (fn) and press that and it should cycle laptop screen--tv screen--both screens
edit, on my dell the button to change says CRT/LCD

Done that when i had the VGA>component cable connected. Failed. Shift+F8.
Just noticed, on the F8 key it has CRT/LCD...obviously the different TV types. Hmmm mines plasma...could this be why it no worky??

tv on the right channel? also, where are you plugging the three way into? ?(i assume you mean red/white/yellow) might be an idea to get one of the scart adapters you get with ps2's and xbox's and plugging it into a scar socket

or another option if you have an xbox 360 hooked up to the router in your house and are running windows you can stream from your laptop to the 360. they are good for something you know
whats your TV?
If its a normal cathode gay tube the quality will be p1sh. you need a tft/flat screen jobbie for best resuylts and there should be an obvious aux connector on the telly that plugs into the laptop (depending on what laptop it is).

bah, ps3s have a media center function, it was in one of the first updates ;)
so pete, grab your bad self one of these clicky (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?oe=UTF-8&hl=en&q=hdmi+to+component+cable&cid=17067353230121565849&sa=title#p)
thats for maximum quality, then down to the output problem!! now switch your tv to what the hd/component channel is, and open up your display settings>control panel>display, then change the output through there, although its just the long way around pressing shift/fn or whatever, at least by doing this you can rule out the chance of human error!
next ting bredrin, what graphics card has your laptop got, as nvidia have good software for running your computer on tvs :thumb:

The easiest way will be something like this:

You can get wireless ones though.

What model laptop is it?
Dell Inspiron 1525
Does the TV have an S-Video input? The majority of other Panasonic Vieras seem to...
