tinking of an engine swap and want a 2L 16v but i keep hearind how bad the handling is. is it really that bad and what can be done to make it better. which would be quicker on a track a 2L 16v or a 1.6 16v.
i'd prefer a 2L but don't wnt the handling to be totally killed

Cheers

For track use the 2l will be terrible as they mainly benifit from top end, so whilst on a track you wont really see the speed. You are best of deciding between a 1400 16v & 1600 16v.

The advantage of the 1400 16v is that you then race in a lower class.

don't want it for competition i just want it to be as fast as poss with out extra mods.
how much difference is there between the 16. and 2.0 in a straight line and on a track?

thats the annoying thing about getting a fast engine, you cant just plonk it in and go off at 150 mph, you have to consider how your gonna stop and the handling of the bloody car. no point having all that hp when you cant realy use it. making it useable will prob cost more than the damn engine too, theres some decent suspension, anti-roll (debatable), bushes, engine mounts, chassis stiffening/welding, brakes, and some decent size tyres so you wont just be wheelspining everywhere! im sure if you threw enough money at it you could get it to handle well and thrash a 1.6 round a track.

i know what is involved in both the conversions, all i want to know is which is quicker when put in a nova.
I've heard that 2L kills the handling but then i hear that a 2L nova will beat most things in a race. which engine would be quicker for fast road and occasional track use
does the lighter weight of the 1.6 make up for 40 bhp

Mine is quite nippy to weather its on the track or the road.

I have got slips to prove 0-60 in 6.4 and 1/4 mile at 15.1 on a damp day so they are not all top end and with proper suspension (Not your G-MAX crap) it will handle fine
