on the my mk1 dash on the drivers side i have some sort of electrical box and i dont have a clue what its for lol

From the Control Units i've seen, that isn't part of the CL/EW .

It's for the headlights. Mine broken and basically they stayed on even when turned off.

Just seen the pic. Headlight dim/dip relay - K62 on the Haynes diagrams.

According to the diag, its "only for GB", so that explains why its just bodged in and dangling down in the footwell lol.

IIRC it dims the headlamps when the ignition is off or something like that? I can't remember now.

its due to an old law the govt was gonna bring in, so car makers fitted em, then they changed their mind..... rip it out and wire it like a mk2 or early mk1. usually its 87-91 mk1's that have it
