hi, really struggling getting insurance on my nova 1.2. it has the usual, spoiler, skirts, alloys, exhaust, lowered, twin 40's..
i can get insurance for just over £1000 without carbs but as soon as i mention the carbs it says unavailable or cannot qoute due to age..
anybody know a solution apart from take carbs off?
i love the look of them in the bay and the noise..lol
just dont tell them about the carbs lol
You'd have to phone them for a quote.

it doesent make a differance if its a nova if you drive with gloves on and a baseball cap and hood up you may get pulled
either that or take em off your only 2 options
Plus police have no way of checking what Modifications are insured, the only was they can tell is if you have 1.2 on logbook but 2.0 in the bay or so ive heard
Ring them, dont bother with online quotes, If they say they wont do it, take off the carbs. Put them back on when you have some driving experiance.

All fine and dandy until he crashes into someone and his insurers void his policy.
Ignore the retarded comments about not declaring, your dad speaks sence.
Unfortunately you are in your first year of driving. I had a rot box 1.2 corsa with 145 tyres (tyres I believe are hardly worth it, you may as well be on discs)
Take the carbs off, build up the no claims, get some driving experience and THEN bolt them on. Think yourself lucky you can have some alloys!

As stated, ring up for a quote. If you can't get insurance with the carbs, remove them. Simplez! :thumb:
Personally, I check insurance quotes before I buy the car, lets you know what you're looking at even if it's just a rough idea. :)

you would be supprised mate, also i doubt that a normal bobby would know the differance.
But you are right you should insure it properly.
wheels, lowered, carbs, exhaust and whatever else you have, to get that insured legitimatly at 17 is pretty much impossible.

Take the carbs off, for the small gain in power its not worth the expense or hassle. It was cheaper for me to fit&insure a 1.4 unit than to tune a 1.2 unit to 1.4 power when I was getting quotes for such things, just as a heads up.
Trouble is he wont be able to insure an engne conversion at 17. Not known of carbs being put on a 1.2, if it was me a probably wouldnt tell them but its up to you. Obviously telling them is the right way, even though insurance is legalised theft.
To be honest, most insurance companies you speak to will only click a box on the computer in front of them! The person on the phone wont have a clue what your talking about. I told admiral i had a 2.0ltr engine in my 1.2. The following questions were -
Does it raise the power of the car? - Yes
Is it an ecu chip? - Err no, its a completly different engine
even though insurance is legalised theft.
I love comments like that. If the price of insurance is such a big issue, simply buy a car thats more insurance friendly. Of course a car of higher risk is going to be more expensive to insure, its simple economics. I do very much agree though that cars of a certain write-off value should have a cap on the policy price (e.g. spending £1k to insure a Nova which would only result in a payout of £200, sans excess, is IMO daft), but I guess that would then push up the prices of insurance for everyone else whilst the companies attempt to make profits elsewhere.
anyway, getting off my soapbox now lol
As said. Ring places and face up that you may have to remove the carbs, or maybe even sell the nova and buy a cheapo wrecker to get that first years NCB.

Not daft at all. If the kiddy with th 1.2 insured his 1.2 for £200 because thats what its worth, and then he rams a brand new C class up the ass, the insurance company is screwed.
They are protecting themselves from what damage the kiddy will do to others, not what he's going to do to himself lol
And besides, dont blame the insurance companies for inflated insurance premiums. Blame the thousands of uninsured drivers, and the even more out there with undeclared mods.

pff my 1.2 spi was an animal in the wet. By that I mean it tried to kill you at 15mph on roundabouts obviously. Bike tyres ftw

im with lee on this, its the thousands of retards that dont declare mod's or even dont insure car's that are the reason for most of our high price insurance , sure theft and accidents come into it ,but there the 2nd reason imo :thumb:

This is true. I did actually think that after making the post lol

I paid 2k on my nova 1st year mate that's a 1.2 standard carb engine.
2nd year came to 1k fully comp and 3rd year if i keep her is looking to be around 700 ish then whatever they knock off for pass plus i'll be doing before my insurance runs out...
It's well worth just biting your lip and building up the no claims before you know it you have a totally legal 2.0 nova and it'll be more fun, faster and have more character than your mates new 09 + plate corsas etc... lol
CBA to read the whole thing.... but i'd ditch the 40's for a year ! Should be insurable.
And tbh, i've never been pulled over as i don't look or act like a prick - I'm sorry, but the people who winge about being stopped all the time are usually stopped for a reason.
