help guys, my car i confusing me!

ok 80% of the time the car will go in first gear straight away, the other 20% i have to push it down for reverse and move the lever to the left and she will go in!

some times it the same for 2nd gear goin up the box!

going down the box 2nd gear is always hard to get in, i have to do what i do when i set off then she goes straight in!

The confusing bit being why does it some times just pop straight in?

Could it be my worn linkage or even gear box maybe, thats why i want to know what gearbox she has and if all gear linkages are the same??

some one must know

I would guess its the linkage worn as my TD did the same until i replaced the linkage - it got to the point that i could only get 5th 1 out of 10 attempts. IIRC they have f10's on them.

under the back of the gearbox, there is a shaft with a pinchbolt on it, then look in haynes or similar

I went for second hand - i just made sure it had less play and wear in it than my own. One from a low milage car for example.
