i bet its to dodge parking tickets. warden books it as an 850i on visual inspection, bloke appeals sayin "ive got an r8" which the reg plate will corroborate and no more ticket.

I had a Pug 309, got parking ticket on double yellows but warden said it was a Citroen on Ticket, even though he recorded corect reg number. Ticket is null and void :D

The badges suggest it's made by bmw too, but it's not lol Owner may well have swapped the plate surrounds, after going to the trouble of changing the badges.

Thats a cutout for the badge; its been removed but left an indentation.

On a serious note, I call stolen car. Local small-time cops, who may not be familiar with an R8, might be alerted to a "stolen Audi R8", and at first glance would just see this as a BMW 850i.
