Idea on costs....

My MK1 sr with XE is coming off the road in Oct and I'm wanting to do a full rebuild:tard:

I'm wondering who has done this recently (ish) and what sort of dosh it's going to be? I don't have a garage and being a pussy don't want to work on it over the winter outside...

The plans are to have the full shell stripped and all sealer removed from the bay and the underside of the car and see if there is any rot hiding - there must be it's 25 years old now! Then all the shell painted. Then want to have the tank cleaned and repainted, axle and front suspension components all cleaned up and painted - possibly powder coated. Poly bushed, new full brake lines, wilwoods and larger discs. All the parts in bay cleaned and painted servo etc. Quick rack and full new exhaust system. May need new front panel as where the lights rest has just started to go.

Engine wise may go for a rebuild of the xe or new let engine with good spec, and new radiator, pipeworks etc.

So I'm thinking in the region of 4-5k, got the car for 1600 and have spent 2.2 on it to date. I want it to be mint and the only way it's going to happen is take it off the road and do it all at once.

Am I being daft doing this as I'll never make my dosh back:confused: or do I just have a real good Nova:thumb:

This is true, BUT if you head into a rebuild with, say £500 when the cost is £1000, you'll get halfway and run out of cash and be left with a half complete car sat about doing nothing. Not all of us have a bottomless pit of cash to throw at cars.

I might just buy a tent and live outside the garage lol Quit work and tour Europe in the Nova - think the paint will be the most to have it fully sprayed

Need to get rid of the BM and get a van to bring all the parts back to clean uplol

Thought about it for a bit but will have the outside standard bar the wheels and exhaust all the interior standard but either xe or let it.

You never know I might sell it after the rebuild :cry:

I'm near the centre mate, yep Novas back on the road until late Oct, well after the Mull Rally. Going to take it over there.
