Break it. You don't even like the car lol

Burgo FTW

As said, your car. Can you afford it? Isn't Lynz's an NE - can you put up with having a heavy engine but comparatively low output?

If it was me - I'd convert it, but V6 the fcuker (I think this might be my new catchphrase lol). 20XE at minimum tbh.

If its original....keep it original.

VXandy
25-08-09, 11:18 PM
The engine is no longer the original one, and was replaced by the last owner as he bent a valve in the last one . . . revving the crackers off it no doubt!

With it not being original anymore thats why im tempted to go down an engine conversion path, especially with it being structually sound, with only little bodywork needed to get the car back to "MINT" once again

:)

you choice but think if you go for the conversion id personaly shy away from the 8v and either go with an xe or a 1.6 16v later would have almost the same power and weigh a fair bit less and are alot more tunable when you want mor in the future which will inevitably happen plus no conversion kit needed so may even work out a cheaper option

So all my driveshafts and mounts etc can be used when fitting a c/x16xe?

wish id have bought this when i had the chance!!:(

26-08-09, 06:26 PM
id go for it, the usual suspects have already slated the 2.0 8v, but tbh they offer a great turn of speed in a nova, esp if they have a f16cr on em, even the ne can be pepped up a little just by tweeks to the breathing, i.e 4 branch, cam and fse reg etc. and remember the torque is very similar to an xe just that its delivered at lower revs so the "pull" is there earlier. and it looks alot more std than an xe......:thumb:

26-08-09, 08:43 PM
Im confused, so what if the engine was changed due to bent valves etc (would that not just be the head anyway??) but if the engine is not the one that came with the car, whats it matter? im sure all mk1 crossover SR's (h plate) were 1400 8v same as mk2 SR's on h plate etc.

Scott

LEWI007

Go and buy a scrapper and put an XE in it.

dont ruin another rare SR.

thats my opinion.

Plug
26-08-09, 08:57 PM
/\ i would rather start with some thing clean than a scrapper for an xe IMO

im with you bud!! should be left as it is and get wraped up in cotton wool lol go get a tidy base model for throwing xe's in!! thats what im doing im after a mk1 merit from near me if he sells im going to xe that and probrably thrash the sh*t out off it!!

26-08-09, 11:16 PM
I say work on the engine you've got in there, i did it with my second nova, it wasn't that far of an xe astra, and still handled like a 1.4 too!

Lynsey
27-08-09, 11:01 AM
Before I start- this ISN'T me trying to get rid of the engine!

A lot of people have said XE it. XEs are much more expensive and although you'll get more power, your wallet will suffer! And not just in the short-term. If you fit a 2.0 8v, all the work will be done for if you ever do decide to XE it.

Lynsey
27-08-09, 11:06 AM

My 20SEH only has 15bhp more and goes like stink! I suppose it's down to the driver as much as the car though

If you do V6 it, don't put it in on the pi$$! lol

You can't really put it in straight unless you remove the bonnet completely OR fit a gayhat 152 with cav inlet

AlanH
27-08-09, 12:13 PM
depends what you want from it, wouldn't personally bother with a 2.0 8v, same work as fitting an xe basically but without all the power. you will only regret it if you dont as you'll get bored with it, i got bored of the xe in 2 months, was fast but i craved more power and couldn't justify spending huge money for pretty small gains tuning it so i've bought an LET, but mines a weekend toy. if its a daily driver keep away from let's, they're expensive and temperamental. 1.6 16v will be great if you want a decent conversion on the cheap and will handle way better, i have spax RSX coilies on mine and still understeered quite a bit with the xe in

dj_wudgey
27-08-09, 06:41 PM
meh 1.4 all the way!!!

novaguy08
27-08-09, 09:06 PM
I say X16XE, has got the tuning potentual to get some good power out of it (i think there is someone around with a 150bhp X14XE!) and because yours is a pre cat chassis you dont have to worry about half the emmissions controlls.

Meh, small block xe's are made of chocolate, and v unrelaible when tuned imo.
