are the hub flanges machined down or the carriers machined out??

if the carriers are machined out then get them machined out to the cav bearing. if you got flange machined dowm use standard bearing

jayme taylor
24-08-09, 10:01 PM
just got the m-tec ones i think ? , dont they just fit in no messing ?

let_nova
24-08-09, 10:02 PM
no you will need to get them machined down to fit the hub and standard nova bearing (pikey way)
or get the carrier machined out to take the cav bearing and that flange.
heard bad things about the m-tech ones sheering off....

John
24-08-09, 10:05 PM
M-tech ones in the conversion fitting kits, just fit standard bearings.

jayme taylor
24-08-09, 10:07 PM
there not m-tec ones , just thought they went in no problem ? wat if i use corsa hub carriers ?

let_nova
24-08-09, 10:08 PM
same situation pal.

what make?

corsa carriers are the same as nova carriers

Graeme
24-08-09, 10:09 PM
If there M tech, they use standard hubs and bearings

jayme taylor
24-08-09, 10:11 PM
so you gotta machine down the hubs or carriers either way ?

John
24-08-09, 10:14 PM
We're getting confused here, Jayme, what carriers are you using? nova? And what hubs are you using?

let_nova
24-08-09, 10:16 PM
right if there not using m tec you either need to get the hub flange machined down to the size of the nova bearing

or

you need to got the hub carrier machined out to take the bigger bearing and flange.

Benn

Dont use M-tech ones tho, they break quicker than.. A oap's hip.

im lost  , hubs not 100% yet what they are ! I am using nova hubs carriers but if it was any better or easy to use corsa ones i would ! :d

So you've bought machined down hubs yes? They fit std nova bearings.

John
24-08-09, 10:27 PM
They're not m-tech ones fella, they look like chris astley ones. M-tech ones have the logo stamped in the face, the driveshafts also have a large weight peice on the long shaft.

Just press them into STANDARD nova bearings.

jayme taylor
24-08-09, 10:28 PM
its been a long day ! so i dont have to machine down anything ???

jayme taylor

Jon_nova1
24-08-09, 10:32 PM
I don't think they need machining

but if i knew it was someone on here bidding for them i wouldn't have bid £211 for them:tard:

lol Id thought it'd be near impossible to get the setup done the conventional way, its the price i was willing to pay for a drop in installation, glad i didn't win as a few have popped up on here over the last couple of days

24-08-09, 10:42 PM
jayme, if you had already bought them, why dont you just wait till they arrive in the post.

and then get a nova bearing adn see if it fits. if yes, ~WIN, if no FAIL

simples

Jon_nova1
24-08-09, 10:42 PM
is this a different set? or the ones of ebay? as novaboz is selling some td shafts

John
24-08-09, 10:50 PM
Lol, i just bought a brand new complete astley fitting kit for £100!

Benn
24-08-09, 10:50 PM
Have you guys looked around for these bits? You can get them so cheaply.

Hubs ready to fit, £42.
http://www.chrisastleymotorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=49&osCsid=41dfb8cccac33dca5512a8519d7a8425

Shafts to fit said hubs, £73.
http://www.chrisastleymotorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=785

Anything over 200 for shafts and hubs is a joke.

22spilne shafts wont have "big block cvs" they have cav mk2 stuff, which is still small block but with a big block end, and std nova outer fit on it.

Jon_nova1
24-08-09, 10:56 PM
then the price for 4 cv joints

http://www.chrisastleymotorsport.com/product_info.php?products_id=71

so the maths says...

2x hubs £84
2x shafts £146
4x cv joints (assume the inner and outer are around the same for arguments sake) £188

total is £418

Benn
24-08-09, 10:57 PM
You can get cvs from a motor factor, nova ones are about 15 each, cav ones are about 20ish.

The cvs on the site you've linked to are the ones needed when running spline shafts, you wouldn't use these is runner machined hubs.

Shafts are sold as a pair.

He said they already had 1600 cav inners fitted and nova outers ! but they didnt !

Benn
24-08-09, 10:59 PM
Did either end fit?

Jon_nova1
24-08-09, 11:00 PM
no, shafts are seperate

"Price is per shaft, please state when ordering if its a pair of if single shaft is ordered which one you need."

John
24-08-09, 11:00 PM
Second hand big block astra/cav shafts can be bought for peanuts of ebay. just swap the inner and outer joints to your nova conversion shafts, simples!

jayme taylor
24-08-09, 11:00 PM

outers did !

Did you remove the inner cv and count the splines? As a lot of "cav mk2 1.6" cvs are wrong, all the ones my work list aren't right...
